Hey y'all 8D !

I've finally gathered up my guts;
and such has resulted in the creation of this particular sketchbook thread! I've been inspired and motivated by all of the threads I've seen and I'm definitely going to give this a go. I figured that I'd really like to improve my cging as well as concept art ('cause i reckon i should know how to plan ahead), so I'm going to devote some time into drawing and posting stuff up here every day (normally I'm too swamped with homework to do anything else. blech) to get my ideas down. I like to experiment with different mediums, but I'm probably going to stick to cg on here...Please feel free to comment and critique in any way you'd like to (but you don't have to 8D)- I'd appreciate that very much. It would be awesome too if you could tell me how things can be improved.

-------ABOUT ME (TL;DR? It's okay, skip ahead 8D)-------

- I'm 16 years old and still in high school; and I'm a first year IBHL Art student >_>
- I'm an Asian chick, but I am most confident when speaking, writing, reading, and typing in English ;D
- I have a pet rabbit called Harry except she's a girl, and she responds to "Gwee" a lot better.
- I love music, and it inspires me a lot - I tend to listen to metal and rock but I'm open for anything, and my some of my favourite bands are (but not limited to) Nightwish, Iron Maiden, Sinergy, Anberlin, Static-X, Marilyn Manson, Nine Inch Nails, KoRn, Atreyu, Apocalyptica, Sirenia, In Flames, and Soilwork.
- I collect little figurines, and I love Death Note to death (ha), and my favourite food would be chicken.
- When I am asleep, I am easily mistaken for an invisible shrimp.
- My favourite insect would be the caterpillar, and my least favourite, ants.
- Sometimes, I'm a neat freak.
- I have a cluster of rubber grapes hanging down from my table-light, and a rubber tomato (you know, those splatty things filled with water) stuck to the ceiling.
- I'm perfectly normal, theoretically speaking...

--------------END OF ABOUT MEH----------------

Well, here goes! :coke:
Below, a drawing I did yesterday. I've never tried anything like this before (i'm trying to break away from lineart. sort of.), so I'm quite happy with it, but I think her proportions look a bit funny?

My friend was feeling kinda bad so this was my attempt to humor her over the internet >_>
I think it worked.
I was originally going to give the bear a toothy grin, but it didn't work out...

Done!
I'm not so pleased with the goo on the ground, as it looks a bit off... any ideas? o_o

Description:
Scientifically known as Octiloberus Tortymundi Caribi but locally as "Squirts", these slimy little critters were brought about by an old (and) nutty scientist who dreamt of a day that which a rat-lobster-octopus-toad hybrid would be created.

Diet: Born with a fervent carnal desire for balloon-bearing children and highly skilled in martial arts; these fellas will go to any length to appease themselves with a meaty, crunchy, and wholesome delicacy. Octiloberus Tortymundi Caribi execute their attacks in a most strategical way unmatched by any other species in the known animal kingdom. Upon devouring its prey, the Octiloberus Tortymundi Caribi will take into posession the balloon of the said child and keep it until it is lost, stolen, or popped. Until then, it will not require further feeding.

Mating habits: The Octiloberus Tortymundi Caribi stores fat in its back (much like a camel) and during mating season, it attracts a mate with distinct gurgling calls and by displaying its blubbery rear to the opposite gender. The plumpest ones usually win.

Lifespan/Size: Oldest specimen recorded to be 22 years old; grows to about a meter in height.

You have talent, if you're used to work with lines and now you try, I guess digital paint. I love the shadow girl... you actually worked on different kinds of gray.

I can't wait to see more of your work :D

@pixelpanic: Thank you! Yeah, I usually had visible lineart in my pieces (shiny plastic looking blown-up stick chibis, anyone?) and I figured I'd drop that for the most part unless i'm doing thumbs and stuff.

Here's another one I just did :]

Haha, your cartoons make me smile so much. Especially that squirt with a balloon. Can't wait for you to update. :]

as far as critique, not much to critique on. For that goo puddle, I'm not really sure how you could improve it, but maybe recognize your light source and use that as a guide. Study how puddles of water reflect light.

Thanks! & I saw your thread too, you have really awesome work, so keep it up, alright? BTW, MERRY CHRISTMAS.

I just came up with a small set of thumbnails about a totally random "story". I wonder if its possible to tell what's going on?

I wanted to work on perspectives here, as well as setting and that vehicle o_o
Not bad for a first-ever try, but I hope to improve.

I took a picture of this (my scanner is currently violently refusing to scan anything for me), and I'll be putting up more thumbs in this post very soon!

I like the way you almost "sculpt" those little monsters with the paint.
Could you post bigger pictures?

scareybunny
December 31st, 2008, 12:33 AM
Thank you! Sure, I'll try to post higher-res work, but most of them are the sizes that they were originally drawn in...i know, I should try to work on a larger scale (something I'll be working on ._.) xD

Here's some more work I did...
I tried to draw a concept idea of a mecha sort of robot o_o and the other two would be my attempt at portraying frustration (mine, actually...are SATs supposed to make someone this crazy?)
