Just thought I'd introduce myself. I am a fine artist/painter trying to make a living out of what I love to do. I hope to make some new friends here. Here are some images of my work:

Sparsons: Thanks for the compliments. I saw a post of yours with a drawing in orange/brown colored conte of a torso (think it was called "Tracy"). Beautiful drawing!!!

Here are some paintings I have done. The second one is supposed to be upside-down by the way ;p Enjoy!

Hey, you've got some quite nice stuff! The paintings seem to be rather Freud and Saville influenced. One thing I would suggest is that you keep your shadows whispery thin. With the last grey scale woman in particular, the paint is thick and the definition is strong in the dark areas. Shadows are a relative absence of light (and thus definition), so ideally you would want soft edges and alot less definition. This will contrast well with the more worked up and defined light areas, creating a better illusion of depth within the painting. One way to get this would be to get down a solid under painting, then carefully work up and focus on the light areas and the middle tones. The shaded areas would require very little (if any) working over.

Keep it up. :)

burl: yeah i totally see what you mean. actually within that painting i was actually trying to do what you gave me advice on and some parts do have that dark transparent thin quality but i most definately lost the illusion of depth by giving some volume in paint on the shadow side of her face. caca!!! thanks for pointing that out man. i gotta be careful with that next time.

Van Gogh painted thickly everywhere. It depends on your intention. Thick in the lights, thin in the shadows is a traditional approach. Underpainting changes the feel and process of a painting. Again, this isn't a right or wrong thing. It depends on your vision and what you are trying to do. Direct panting has been around for a very long time, by the way. Frans Hals, for example, did direct painting. And very well, I might add.

You might want to try to paint the same thing several times, using different approaches.

Your work has the essential thing- a real, gut response and feeling both for what you are painting and for the paint itself. I do think you need now to pay a little more attention to proportion and structure. It might be time to do some drawing, to study the head for example.

Thee is something very strong and compelling in your work.

That last drawing is haunting and beautiful. The soft lines and replaced navel give off the illusion of double- vision.
You really put the wear and tear on your moleskine, I'm usually too delicate with it.

@Chaliemurphy - Thank you :D

@The Pariano - Thanks man! Yeah I do tend to abuse my moleskine sketchbook. They have good paper though so they don't tear up like most others that I have used.

Here are some more works I have done since the last post. Any comments and critiques are welcome.

Hey Tim,
Nice work and variety of techniques. You're not afraid of what the media can do, which makes your work stay fresh. Will be checking in to see what you explore next.

your penwork is also great. what kind of painting do you use there? also oils? i should try to combine those things once too. also what kind of surface did you painted those citrons?

Sorry for the late reply...yeah they're oils. I painted those citrons on acrylic primed masonite panel :D
