Hi

I'm trying to make this uncommon pose: male squatting with both arms in front :P ... however I cant find any good reference pictures

I got this link (http://www.characterdesigns.com) from an earlier post but it doesn't have what i am looking for.

Anyone know of any other good FREE galleries/collections?

thanks for looking

Try a mirror or camera. You'll never find a resource with every possible pose in it.

I think Posemaniacs (http://www.posemaniacs.com) has a pose like that.

What are you drawing, Spider-Man?? Use a mirror, reference yourself.

To add on to J Wilson's suggestion, don't forget to take the horizon (eye level of the viewer/camera) into account. A vertical mirror will work only if you want the horizon to be at the character's eye level.

Set up a camera and take many many pictures with slight variations to the pose. Take the best elements of them and combine. Do this in a dark room and set up a strong lamp where you want the light source to be (a large window works as well - it depends on what type of light source you want to have in the picture).

Only you can get the right pose, at the right camera angle, and with the right lighting. Taking your own photos whenever possible is efficient and will save* headaches later.

I think you probably meant "save".

Funny how one single letter completely reversed what you intended to say.

gee thanks for the input guys

I did consider posing myself, but dismissed it because of lack of equipment and personal space at the moment

I totally forgot about spidey ... I'm trying to make a gargoyle and spiderman's pose fits nicely

Did you already look through the references subforum? Lots of links are in there. http://www.conceptart.org/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=30

If you have a camera phone with at least 2MP, and a room that has a flat floor or a chair (depending on how high you need to be), then you definitely have the room. Don't have a camera phone? Borrow a friend's.

A couple of weeks ago I took some reference photos in my tiny college dorm room of me riding a horse*, so I doubt space is that much of an issue - Just stretch your imagination a bit.

*- The "horse" was a punching bag lying on the ground. I also set up a simple desk lamp onto a book cabinet to get it at the right height, and used my camera phone set on top of a bunch of books. Though I had to take about 8 photos until I had a winner, it didn't take more than 10 minutes in total.
