So much fantastic stuff at CA, I'll be lucky to make it out of this alive!

I'll start with some traditional stuff (old stuff too), and then some very humble digital quick paints. Also, if you get a chance, check out my demo reel at www.calebmerrick.com (http://www.calebmerrick.com) I really hope you all like my stuff!

old wip, I'll update the pic soon as I find one (painting is in another state)

To this day (painted this about 12-13 yrs. ago), you can still find Jack high up in the mountains of Colorado running an old fashioned general store, and making some of the best steaks this side of the Rockies.

---------------------------
Painted this as a gift for a friend. He allowed me to sail to Europe on a coal ship when I was 19, so it was just a really big 'thank you'.

---------------------------
Painted this while living on a farm in the midwest, I added our barn cat to give it some life. I don't think I was quite 19 yet, as I remember being pretty anxious to get out and see the world.

---------------------------
This was my first major piece, I did this when I was around 15 or 16 years old. I remember the brush I used wore completely down to a nub, the guy that bought the painting requested the brush, so I gave it to him.

---------------------------
old mural I did way back in the day (not sure what day)..
http://artistcaleb.files.wordpress.com/2008/12/calebsart4asml.jpg
---------------------------
This oil piece was done when I was about 21. Sad but true story, while living on the farm, we accidentally hit the bird used in this piece with a car. Got two uses out of the pheasant, a painting, and a really nice meal! poor thing.

---------------------------
I struggled with this oil piece greatly and had to get help from my folks at the time, because I'm color blind. I finished this painting when I was around 17-18 yrs. old. The fun part that I remember was plucking a hair from my head and using it to detail the rifle!

I won't be the first to say that, the lighting in you're images really makes them feel real... Wherever you light in you're images they really look realistic.

I like the pheasant painting quite a bit. You can really sense that it is connected to a story.

Nice traditional painting.

Thank you very much! Yes actually there is a story behind it, The guy that commissioned the piece told a wonderful story about his childhood concerning that old John Deer that belonged to his father! A group called Pheasants Forever was going to do a printing, but they flaked out.

I found a bunch of my really old traditional doodles and scanned them. I thought it might be fun to add stuff to them digitally.
In this little pen and ink (hanging above my bedside table), I just added a little warm color.

This is the first matte I did when I was in school, I used Maya and Photoshop, I went to render the grass (it's just Maya grass) using mental ray, that wasn't going to happen with our time constraints, so I faked grass and cloud movement in Shake. Obviously it's a little crude, but I thought I'd post it anyhow.

It's kinda dusty in here, and lonely. I'll have some new stuff up soon.
I guess in the mean time I'll post this screen of a little Maya experiment I was foolin' around with...

Here is a new one, it's kind of a quicky, but if I don't start posting more I'll turn into a single-cell creature, which is fine, but but they're too small to see!

I loved your traditional work. Amazing! You did those when you were a teenager? My god. I´m 26 and i hope to make stuff like this one day.

Thanks guys! I haven't picked the brush in a while now, so many distractions. The digital stuff needs work, I can see how one can never practice enough with the Wacom. Interesting thing though, I really believe that using the Wacom can improve traditional technique, it just makes you faster. But I have SO far to go that it depresses me.

This is another old oil painting I did back in oh, I'd say around 1996-1997 I think. Sorry about the bad picture quality, I'll try to get a better pic sometime.

Here's another old painting I did called Taos. It's Alkyd on masonite, and was done when I was about 18-20 years old. And oh my, the camera I have right now is not made for this, but I'll change that soon.

I just recently purchased the 'Whit Brachna Environment Speedpaints Volume 1' from MB, and am posting this message to recommend the series. It's good stuff! Here is the link: http://media.massiveblack.com/downloads.html#whit3
Highly motivational, I have these dry seasons, so when rain like this shows up I really appreciate it. Just passin' the love along.

Here is a small (7"x9") oil painting of Yellowstone National Park. A natural fire was cleaning house during my visit years ago to that wondrous place. I hope you like it! It's just a simple fast little piece.
