Hi I'm just starting my first sketchbook and hoping everyone can give me some advice/critiques on what I should work on and which direction I should be headed. Thanks everyone, I'll be updating regularly with things I've been messing around with.

Way to go! Study more subjects of art and update this daily! Try to use more solid lines. You should also read some books concernign anatomy, figure drawing, etc

Yesterday and I plan on continuing on it today, I did a lot of the tutorials on Drawspace.com. This is what I came up with, I plan on going onto each different section and getting each of the concepts they discuss down. Then moving onto life drawing and then figure.
Am I wasting my time with that website or is there a more effective path I should be taking. I think it's working but my opinion means jack haha.. looking forward to feedback. :D

I've started working with Andrew Loomis' figure drawing book. So I haven't been posting since I've been working with a lot with just getting the shapes down so a lot of it has been in 2H-4H leads and my scanner can't pick it up... But I'll be posting soon so hang tight!!!

Yes, the second set of pencil work was much more interesting. Keep studying your pencil work, and switch to softer leads, like 2 to 4B.

Thanks Oomgawa!
Yeah for a lot of them I'm just trying to get them out quick so haven't been going back and finishing them. But I'll try and get some more finished works up later today.

Hey here's what I've been working on the past couple days. Started getting into the mannikin frame (I'm sure that looks familiar to a lot of you). Plus another still life, wasn't happy with my other still lifes so didn't bother to load them but I'll be bringing in some more of Loomis' excercises and some more life sketches soon!

I've been MIA for a couple weeks and haven't had a chance to post. Holidays and work and sickness have kept me busy but school's coming up again and I have some art classes that I'm really looking forward too. So back to the grind to get myself ready!
I'll be posting some things I've been working on soon.

A couple of the new things I've been working on.. camera makes them kinda blurry so not very good quality but at least you can take a look.

wish I had something better quality but they're already on the wall so I don't want to scan them haha.
most were done from some sort of reference.
comment plz!

NoodleDoodle-Thanks Noodle! Yeah, I feel like I've been improving and it's good that someone else thinks so too. I'm so excited for the future!
I'm going to start posting more often now I think. I told myself once a week because I've been so busy during the week with school and what not but I had to omit some stuff because there was just too much! So I'm going to try posting more frequently from now on.
This next one was what I spent my weekend doing, it's a 18x24 perspective piece of our local barnes and noble. It's still a WIP but I've logged around 15-20 hours on this thing because I decided to render it entirely using ball point pen.. not the best decision on my part but I think it's given me a good result. I probably have a couple more hours of work on it and I'll post the finished piece when it's done.
594826
So that's that.. and here's the rest:
594827
594828
594829
594831
594832
594833
594834
594835
594836
594837
594838
Some studies in there, I just got some of the Bridgeman books so tried to do some hands from that unfortunately was preoccupied with perspective piece to put in as much time on them as I had hoped. But this week expect many many more.
Looking forward to feedback!

I've got a lot of stuff to do this weekend so hopefully sunday will be a big update!

Holly shit man, this sb not even tho a page yet and there's alrady such improvment!
Dude that life drawin has really uped you skill, and those hand studies look awesome.
Your on the right track man, but be careful when drawing full body figures, somtimes they look un-balanced.
keep up the studes mate, and thanks for dropping by my SB.
cheers

JailHouseRock2-Thanks for the input matt. I'm in total agreement, I've noticed in a lot of my figures there's something sorta off but hopefully that'll go away with more practice! Where I'm going to school right now they're starting up a weekend life drawing session that I'm going to start going to along with the class I'm in. Hopefully that'll bump me up a couple more notches!
I've got some really great texts on form and some great ones on anatomy but I really don't know anything at all about color and a lot of my classes have started to emphasize using more and more of it so I'm kinda at a loss in that department.
So basically what I'm wondering is if anyone knows of the Loomis equivalent to color theory or color use since I'm at a complete loss. ><;
THANKS!! :D

Most recent life drawing, I'm pretty happy with it. Some proportions are off and far from perfect but better than what I've been producing lately! :D

Your last drawing shows a lot of progress! As far as color goes im in the same boat you are in :P But if you do find a good book let me know. Curious to know what your major in school is? Keep posting and keep drawing! :)

Here's my spartan boot camp #75 post.
This was great for me. It was really hard and I'm no where close to where I want to be, but hey, 6 months of doing these and I'll be pro right? haha well that's what I hope at least.
Here's my 50 gestures + flex study:

Now for the rest of the stuff I did this weekend.
There's a bunch of it but it still feels like I didn't do enough. I think next weekend I'm going to spend more time on one piece, it felt like I was jumping from one thing to the next.
This is just some of it, there's a little bit more but I'm not too proud of it haha.
Any advice welcomed!

Hey I would like to say thanks for the comment on my sketch book , and the advice!
im diggin the sketch book :) , I've looked into the burne hogarth books , they are good but from imagination , i was told to steer clear from him and focus more on life drawings and andrew loomis. I haven't seen a bridgeman book yet though would you happen to know any links for it for an e-book?

Whoa, a lot of great new studies, especially the last one in the post #20 is great! With your gesture studies, try going for as few lines as you can

JimahJames- No problem Jimah, and here's a link to an awesome site that has the best figure drawing e-books. Alberto Ruiz has a post on his blog on what he considers the best figure drawing books (and his word is pretty much gold).
http://processjunkie.blogspot.com/2007/09/best-figure-drawing-books-ever.html
Check it out!
NoodleDoodle- Thanks Noodle! Yeah, I've been trying to clean up my lines and make more decisive strokes rather than just scribbling my way to a form. I've been trying to use the centerline and blocking method and it's really been helping me! (I think ><)
JimahJames- yeah I'll be sure to swing by your sketchbook whenever you update!
PieMonster- Thanks man, haha I got overly distracted this weekend/week and didn't get nearly as much as I wanted to done. But I got some new books and am going to be doing some facial studies! :D.. more improvements to come!
---------------------------------------------------------
Okay, onto the updates!
There's a lot more, this is pretty much just what I got done in one of my sketchbooks over the week. I'll upload some of my other studies and work on tuesday and hopefully throw up some recent stuff too.
So there's some drapery studies, a couple self portraits, some more "flex" studies, a lot of gestures.. and I think that's about it.
More to come though!
Haha I am not proud of my self portraits.. made myself look fat in the second and apparently I have a gnarled hand in the first as well as a black eye. Proportions are all wrong but hey, do 1000 of 'em and who knows :D

Damnit, you are working hard indeed! Those drapery studies are looking cool man! You should practise more drawing imaginary people without refs, it can help you a bit, but dont do that too much, or youll learn some bad habits like ive done :D Keep on posting!

Hey. Cool studies. I think you could bring some more oomph to your portraits though. Compared to the studies there's a somewhat difference in quality. Good advice would probably be, think less in contours and 2d-shapes and try to 'model' your faces using planes and stuff... Well, i'm crap at that too, but I think it helps :)
Practice makes pizza pie

the muscle and drapery studies did turn out quite well! I would say that you need to get down and study basic heads from loomis or bridgman or anything...start real basic and work your way up. I would say don't do LONG rendered studies right now, a handful of several minute ones would help you more to get proprtions right.
