Kenshiro, from hokuto no ken!
I loved this show when I was younger, so doing this was a blast.
More to come later when I (hopefully) rig and animate some. :yum:
Zbrush sculpt > maya render > photoshop paint
Feel free to give me critiques, and be as harsh and honest as possible plz.

those muscles on the back of the ribs are pretty nasty iv never seen the show though so i have no clue if their supposed to look like that are not. seeing the close up made me think that the hair does not seem to be attached to the head right im not really sure how to explain it any better. one last thing the hair blend with the background quite a bit so may be tweek it a little bit.
Over all its a wonderfull rendering and you should be happy witht the final outcome becaues it looks really great.

Backlight the sucker. It'll add dimension. It's an industry standard thing.
Very old kung fu-looking (on a WWE superstar + bod), course you were prolly going for that!

The backround is really confusing and the texture resolution is all over the place. The abbs and surrats look decent though. oh and never do black on black its just not worth it.

Nice to see some old anime/manga love.
Migght want to unflex his torso abit. Looks like he's laying on his back while trying to flex. Love the seven scars Zodiac. :D

Yeah, my only crit is the background, the subject need to pop out of it, i agree on the backlight, or rim light setup. Great sculpt!

the composition sort of looks awkward to me cause his head is in the very center. and i agree with the others about the lighting

Thanks for the kind words.
Do you mean the lats? Yeah those are completely unrealistic, and I did it on purpose. Don't know if I'll keep them like that til the end, but I think they're nice for that shock factor gith now.
And I screwed up the hair's blending, it's just a mess right now, will fix in the next painting. :)

I didn't want to do a backlight because I thought it was too cliched, but as it turns out there's a reason it's in almost every image. :/
I don't know what I was going for, I just got a render of the skin shader and thought, man this looks like ass, I should paint some details into it.
And this was the result. I wish I could come up with a better idea for a painting. *sigh*

You're right, I have no idea how to do backgrounds or nature scenes.
I'll start doing some nature sketches so that it won't be such a hack job next time I try it, hehe.
And by black on black being not worth it, you mean I need a backlight in there to to pickout the rim too, right?

Hey, not sure what you mean by unflex. But I'm assuming I need to add some variation to different muscles so they don't all look tense?

Got it, thanks. :sungod:

Thanks for pointing that out! Man it does look kinda stupid, I'll definitely look into composition. :)
Thanks for the kind words and very helpful tips guys!!

He looks like this laying down, but his arms aren't raised.
