Hello everyone, I'm kinda new here, this is my first large piece of digital art. I'm kind of finished with the lineart and I would like to colour it sometime, I was just wondering if anyone had any crits on the piece.

Thanks :) . My dad is an automechanic so I have boxes of old dot matrix car diagnostic printouts at home - we use it for everything.
mos667 - I don't mind. Have fun with it and don't forget to post it later :D .

.. a-HA! i see that you are using a soft brush in some areas! gotcha! ;) hehe
..no sersiously, the soft brush gives it a slight "computerish" feel, either you want that, or you dont. If you don't want that i'd suggest you fill in those areas with a hard brush, so that all edges are crisp n'sharp lookin'..
very nice pic anyway! did you use a reference of some sort?

Hey! This is fun. I wish I had done better around the head. Maybe I will add a background later ;).

The arm position seems really odd, I can't seem to get myself into that position ;), just for future knowledge. Love his shoe things.

Lol, I guess! Makes an artist better. I've only colored so little ;)

All my colouring to date has been pretty crappy. I've tried to make some textures for 3D models... always looked like puke, so I was kind of daunted by the task of colouring it. I had intended for the line art to be the finished pic that's why I used a soft brush in some places, but now I've tried some colouring and I think maybe I can do a decent job with it.
I basically used myself for reference, not that I look like that, I just use my own body for proportion checks and stuff.
This is the reference I used for the lion spaulders: http://www.morbid.demon.co.uk/fr_index.html?/lion-helm.html
And the armoured boots were inspired by a picture of a stainglass tribute to students who fought in WWII in the newspaper.

mos667 - i just wanted to suggest that you use a seperate layer for coloring - so that the lineart doesn't get smeared around :)
p1ke - cool, always fun to see the references :)

soul808 - Yeah, that's the problem with using the smeary kinds of brushes in Painter (Wet acrylics, Pallete knives, etc.). Even if you do it on a new layer, you have to set it to either Gel, which messes with the colors and makes it look pretty bad, or set it to "Pick up colors underneath". If you don't set to either, you get white around the edges where the brush is picking up the white on that layer, which makes the image look like complete krap. Technically I did use a seperate layer, but oh well ;)
