Ok dont laugh at me........... I am hoping you guys might find these interesting. I know these are aweful but I have to prove that I HAVE worked on a game that has been released.

Did these almost 2 years ago while I was at Ritual. Some of the characters for the new Counterstrike.

First character model sheets I had ever done. Had one day to do each of them.

Jason Sallenbach (Dark Horizon) and Jay Hosfelt did most of the skinning and modelling of the finished characters.......so far as I know.

Actually cant find the one I am most proud of......the female hostage. She looks hot as crap in the game though. ahahahah.

ok so dont laugh........

Hey Hawkprey, one day each on them. Did you have to do the research during that day to? Or where the characters already designed?

By the way, the orginals are pretty small for these ones I guess... Or you've must have used a thicker pencil that you usuall do

Hey thanx Skank........glad I could be of some inspiration

Al-x......Ya these are done on 8X10 paper. I only had one day to do these but I had a co-worker, who gathered all the reference I needed for each character. All I had to do was get it all on one page.

I don't understand,

why would I want to laugh at this? Is the work suppose to be bad? Hawkprey, how long do you normally get to do model sheets and character designs at your job or when you were at ritual? What's the standard turnaround time? This is detailed, clear and readable. Perfect for a modeler to do their thing. I thought all you concept artists for games pumped out these amazing characters and environments with only a day to do it in. Am I wrong?

i take it, in this format of character design, these are specificaly for the 3d modeler? is this a standard way of doing this?
forgive my ignorance, im just trying to get as much knowlege
as i can for this field of work

Hawk, Lmao, not at your art either - I laugh because its really funny you think you have to prove yourself here. You are one of the dopest artists on here. Personaly i like your linework is beautiful and should be noted by all.

BTW, POST MORE HOT-ASS BITCHES WITH BIG WEAPONS!!! please.

Hawkprey -

Very nice indeed. No need to prove yourself though, I think everyone here knows that you CLAIM to be working in the game industry..... (just kidding).

Actually, I met some people at Turbine a few weeks ago that were singing your praises so I do not think you have to worry about your rep!

Post more when you can!

I remember seeing one of those in a computer gaming magazine and thinking "gee, that's a pretty nice model sheet, but it looks like it only took about a day to make."

Well, looks like I was right. :)

i have to ask the cliche question of.... how did you color these?

is this marker or digital? I just have to ask because these are VERY clean.

Hey thanks guys

I think my main problem with these is not the execution but the actual characters themselves. They seem very "toy" like to me. The proportions are kinda whacky and faces are messed up. The straps and cloth also dont hang realistically. Definitely would approach them differently if I was doing them today.

Ya Davi. I think I colored these in photoshop. Its been awhile.

....and Skank. Up until I started my lastest job at Scion I always did character sheets like the ones above. The modellers here at Scion prefer 3/4 front and back views with the characters in some sort of pose that shows their attitude. Its a testament to the skill of the modellers here at Scion that they can nail a character without an ortho sheet. The 3/4 back view kicks my ass though. ahahahah.

hey Eric

All the characters I have worked on for the past year or so have been really detailed. From start to finish they usually take me 2-4 days per character.

These characters have also been fictional, completely out of my head. So the first day is usually comprised of doing rough iterations to make sure I am on the right track.

Here is kind of an example of how I am working now.

I did this for the orc thread in about an hour.

now I am going back in and pimping details......adjusting proportions etc. This head took about 30 minutes. So the whole body will take me about a day and then I would usually do a back view which takes another half day.
