It's around this time of year that I get the warm and fuzzy "help your fellow man" kind of feelings (the rest of the yr, not so much...just kidding). I want to help a lot of charities, but don't always have the money to do so. What I do have is art. I'd like to know what type of charitable art projects are out there, and maybe get some of the other fine artists on this forum to give them some love too.

The few I know of:
Comics for Cures (http://www.comicsforcures.com/sketchcard_09.htm) benefiting the American Cancer Society, sponsored by BlueLinePro. - Contact them and they will send you a few of their blank sketch cards (think trading card-sized) for you to draw on and return for their exhibition and auction.

The 100 Artists Project (http://www.100artistsproject.com/index.htm) (original CA post here (http://conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=94686&highlight=charity)) benefiting a number of charities including CBLDF, The Hero Initiative and others. - Sign-up for a number of projects from circulating sketchbooks to art send-ins (both traditional and digital). The second round really needs some love.

The DA Holiday Card Project (http://news.deviantart.com/article/61965/) benefiting hospital patients, sponsored by DeviantArt. - Make artistic holiday cards (from scratch, or from store bought bases) to be given to hospital patients this season. If doing good isn't enough reward they are also offering a prize drawing and 1 month subscriptions.

That seems like a really short list to me, but I don't troll the interwebz or art circles enough to know of more. What do you guys know of?

The only one I can remember off the top of my head:
Society of Wildlife Artists (http://www.swla.co.uk/)
The Society of Wildlife Artists is a registered charity that seeks to generate an appreciation of and delight in the natural world through all forms of fine art based on or representing the world's wildlife.

Through exhibitions and publications of fine art the Society aims to further an awareness of the importance of conservation in order to maintain the variety of the world’s ecosystems and its wildlife.

Aside art specific charities for causes, it could never hurt to create something independently for specifically donating the proceeds to the foundation/charity of your choice. I once sold some cat prints locally for donation towards the Wiregrass Spay/Neuter Alliance in providing help and care for strays and feral animal colonies. A good suggestion may be for people to hit up local small shops, holiday-promoting businesses, or even see about getting a permit to hold your own isolated event for an auction. It's a lot easier than most people think. :D

I know for you, personally, being in Savannah gives an advantage with the Art on the River event (if that still goes on), galleries, and all those cafes.

The Jim Himelic Foundation sought me out about half a year ago for being an artist of some renown in attorney circles. They were very happy to get an oil from me to try to sell at a kind of "celebrity golf tournament and charity auction" thing they hold annually in Tucson. Much to my chagrin, the painting didn't sell at the function but then again the Foundation wanted to keep the painting, so I don't feel I have wasted anybody's time there. (I guess the Foundation believes in me whether or not the attorneys and judges in Tucson do).

That foundation is about ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease).

Is this the link (http://www.jimhimelicfoundation.org/), arttorney? They don't seem to be working on the 09 tournament just yet, but I'm sure contacting them (now, or in the future) would work.
