I know we have ton of peeps from the NY/NJ area...not exactly a ton but a decent amount...
I was wonderin if a couple of you guys would be interested in a sketchgroup or something...The Austin Sketch Group is really popular, and it seems to have a noteworthy attendance, enough to warrant a website...
Of course this would be a collaborative effort to get this organized...for instance a good place to meet up etc...
Does anyone have any suggestions for locations?
Time and Day?
I would prefer Sunday afternoon..
ON a somewhat related note...there are life-drawing Sessions at the Art Students League, does any of you guys go there?

Hey bRyaN
Starting the Austin Sketch Group took a LOT of time research on my part. I spent several days looking into artists in the area and what they were doing, and getting familiar with their work. When I had enough of a list, I emailed them, detailing my intentions, a time and a place and what they should bring... and links to samples of my own work (just so they knew I was a serious professional) I also made it clear that the idea of a group was to start out as an experiment, and that if they found it interesting to please attend.
Then I had them pass the info on to other people who might be interested or to send me their email addys (pros, students, whatever). This was a huge help. Be sure to let them know that you won't email them again if they don't want you to.
Before I knew it, I had the email addresses of over 50 people in town, most of which replied to me in the first 3 days. I also went to several message boards and posted the info.
It was a slow start, but we've had groups fluctuate in attendance from 8 people to about 28. It's been a real joy.
If you need any more pointers, let me know.

F3nix for some reason i knew this would get you in here...
I'm gonna need some assistance in this if possible...I'm not college right now, so if you wanna pass on the good word..we could get some shit together...
I personally think it would be cool to meet some new people...and get all that creative energy in one place...

bRyaN - do you go to the 5-6:30 life drawing at ASL? How is it (like the models, number of people who show up, range of pose length...)?
And 5 free hours of figure drawing sounds awesome, definitely something to check out.

Alot of older people go to these sessions it can get crowded if you do not show up a lil early...it would be nice to see more guys and girls my age lol
And the models are unattractive but do an excellent job...
the sessions start with like five 3 min poses, then one 10 min and then one 15 and the final pose is 25min....but i just started goin to these...

here's the problem with parsons sketch..... the dirty old men and the yapping young kids.
there are two old men that go there every week and when they see a man posing, they either leave, or just leave the room and return when a woman is posing. and when a woman is posing , their jaws open and they start making circles on the paper.
and then there are the kids that go there, highschool students who talk and talk.
the models are usually pretty good.

If anyone in New York is looking for something half drawing and half social, the Society of Illustrators has a “Jazz and Sketch” event. $15.00 includes models, live jazz, and a buffet dinner. There is also a bar to buy drinks! It can be a pretty great evening with the right crowd. The next one is Jan 15.
