View Full Version : 2nd Dynamic Energy Challenge - Batman+vehicle! - Stage1
December 1st, 2008, 06:38 AM
Welcome to the 2nd Dynamic Energy comic character challenge!
The character is:
But - I am adding an extra element to this challenge! A dynamic situation is required involving one of Batman's vehicles! (or create one of your own) - I'm looking for the picture to be focussing on an exciting moment of action.:mod:
Stage 1 =sketches+ideas - one week challenge then poll
Stage 2 =finished quality pieces - one week challenge then poll
Anybody is encouraged to take part in either stage - if you just want to have a bit of fun sketching then feel free to just do the stage 1 or if you'd rather jump straight in at stage 2 then go for it!
Also feel free to use any media or art style - all I ask is that you keep it clean thanks! (no obscene stuff etc - you know the drill )
With stage 1, finished quality isn't important but totally cool if you want to.
Any level of artist is more than welcome
Stage 1 Batman Deadline 7th Dec '08
Any questions - just ask!
Have Fun! :painting: :steph: :yayca:

Hey GetiX and M3 - great to have you both takin part :D and remember to have lotsa fun with your roughs for stage 1 :wip: !
It would be great to see a page of quick ideas like just stickmen and 'stick-vehicles' (?? if that's possible lol!) :painting:

Just sketches (is that okay to post here?) It's rough, but basically batman has swung his bat-rope(?) around an arch and it has saved him from near doom of a cliff. Unfortunately, his car isn't so lucky. Hope I have time to flesh this out more.

Hey SamC - nice start! This is what Stage 1 is all about - Ideas, roughs & WIPs.
And yes, posting of roughs and ideas is encouraged in this thread so others can give constructive crits/comments :blahblah:
My only real crits to the idea so far are: it would be cool to see how he got out of the batmobile (roof or door open / blown off) and also why he's in the situation ... explosions from bad guy's weapons ... swerving to miss innocent people...etc. also it would be great to have a more dynamic angle to see the situation from, as it will enhance the energy of the piece. Imagine seeing this same scene as if you were looking at it from ground level, right at the cliffs edge!:anime:
I'm looking forward to the next installment :) Keep up the good work! :painting:

Still in sketchy stages. Ignore the box. Just applied some of the crit. Will probably adjust the angle to being more overhead, but I'm gonna give it a day and look at the positions again before I begin adding anything else.

Yeah ! I think this kind of challenge is the best way to improve my creativity, and also it can help me to improve in composition, use of color, and other things ! I will try to be in :)

Hey guys :)
Keep at it SamC nice to see you working with my crits in mind - I'd like to see you pull-out further from the scene with that last one so you can see more of the event... also remember perspective and crazy angles are some of Dynamic's best friends
www.comicvine.com is a great place to find ref pics if you do a search for batman and look at the left-hand list for 'galleries'
Walid D - welcome! you got the idea - one of the main reasons I put this together is to hopefully help each other improve (and have fun in the process!) feel free to post any WIPs and roughs if you like :painting:
Rock on everyone! :yayca:

So here is a quick sketch ! It shows batman driving really fast on his bike, and in front of him, there is a big police car's explosion, maybe made by some vilains ! I was more inspired by the movie than by the comic, but I will try to look on your site, to find some ref ! Crits and comments are welcome :)

Hope everyone's well and having fun with this one :steph:

Hey nice start Walid D - you've got some great dynamic angles and a feeling of speed. You might want to check out the perspective angles on that building to the left though - It's currently conflicting with itself. Really looking forward to what you do with this idea in Stage 2 :painting:
Hope you both don't mind I did paintovers - quick perspective lines on yours Walid D and just some possible suggestions on yours SamC :) Keep rocking :yayca:
Ok, only a day to go - I better get my own ideas sorted!
All the best everyone!

Ah you make it look good. I did this before I saw your version. I think I'll probably redo it >.<
I'll wait for your feedback and then decide whether to stick with it or not. Need to sort this before tommorow D:

SamC - Good to see you really working at this :painting: but do remember this is only the roughs stage :scribble:
One thing I think would benefit you is: before you start sketchin your ideas, try really imagining all the main elements of your pic in a 3D space while looking at the paper. Try thinking up some really wacky arrangements without worrying whether you know how to draw it like that. Also bear in mind the focal-point: in the last pic of yours notice how your eyes are drawn to Batman's shoes then the car. You could have the explosion as the focal-point by bringing it a little more central and having Batman and his vehicle moving away from the center, or you could have Batman closest to the viewer -swinging past as all the carnage is going on in the background ...or even you could have the car right in the foreground almost hitting the viewer as it is breaking apart and falling from whatever terrible thing has happened with batman and the explosion in the background! Lol sorry going on a bit there! :blahblah: I hope that has been helpful and sparked your imagination :D
M3 - Aw maaan! Thanks for letting us know (you could always jump right in at Stage 2 if you want :mod: ) All the best with all the stuff you got going on - cheers buddy :yayca:
Oh yeh - I'm going to have the deadline as Sunday (7th) 11:59pm.
I have a rough sketched for mine but need to get it scanned in.
December 7th, 2008, 04:39 PM
Ok - an idea I was working on but I've kinda run outta time as I've had a lot of stuff going on. Lol nevermind - I think this has some pretty cool ideas for me to work from for my Stage 2 - classic Gotham car chase with baddies in hyper-powered old van :) hope everyone else is doin ok!

What I've done :
The7artist7 : Wow, your scene is really cool !!!! Your illustration is really dynamic !!! Composition is great !
Well, I don't think I will have time to participate to stage 2, but I'll try ! :)

Nice work Walid D - Good use of dynamic lighting to emphasize the focal point. I still notice some conflicting perspective lines with the buildings but overall very cool!
SamC - How are you doing buddy?
Ok - I'm going to get the Stage 2 thread started and run the poll for stage 1 for the next 3 days (stage 1 poll is about constructive crits and comments)
All the best :yayca:
