I made this in painter 7 using the chalk tool and the rectangle seciction tool.

this was inspired by alot of things, I wanted to prove to myself that I could create a likeness without strokes or linework, I deddicated my concentration to shapes value and perportion, it took longer than i thought, it looked like a bunch of random squares for the firts half hour and then it started to come together slowly.

i make alot of my portraits very impulsivly without alot of forethought. on this one i had to think and calculate every step, i felt like i was programing my portrait instead of drawing it.

this is also a special thank you to Mindcandyman and his brother smeargoo for inspiring me to look at myself from a new perspective.

i like it it reminds me of my youth in the 80's with pictures of 8-bit nintendo images close up, i was always intrigued by how they turned a couple of pixels into something recognizable from a distance but could barely tell wat it was if it was seen close up, almost like digital impressionism i guess.

Wow Andrew, you never cease to amaze. You really are quite amazing in your ability to push yourself in all types of directions. This is really awe-inspiring, to me. Really. Holy schmolly.

Wow...your welcome Andrew!

I really like this piece because it really is unlike anything I've seen you post here. A real experiment and a successful one! Almost has a cubist type of look to it. It's really a fresh piece.

I think of it as a call for all of us to consistently take a step back and look at things from a different perspective!

C'est Manifique! The composition. The colours. The mood.
Wonderful. Won-der-ful! Nicely Different.

I love it. Thank you, Dr.Jones.
And kudos to Smeagol and Mindcandyman for providing inspiration.

The way you described the process, you sound as if you weren't happy with the turnout, is that true?

If so, I have a feeling if you try it a couple more times, you will appreciate it more. Interesting idea, though, and it has an interesting finish to it. If you didn't describe the process, I wouldn't be sure how I would have taken it.

Great job on this one Andrew...this looks like it was a real pain in the butt. Definitely worth the effort. I'm glad my brother and I could help with the inspiration but you are the one that took that and made it into an awesome piece of art. Great work.
