What size do you own? I'm thinking about getting one but is it really worth shelling out all the money for a 12 X 19 or is buying a 9 x 12 kinda as good? Also I want to go into animation; are there any versions best suited for that? Sorry to sound like a noob here but I'd appreciate any advice.

I have an Intuos1 serial model A4 size with a new coversheet and nibs, it works great, not need to go crazy over cintiq's or Intuos3 if you can get an older model for cheap.

Anything that's close to A5 size is comfortable.

I have an a6 graphire 4 and it doesn't bother me.. well, i didn't actualy get my hands on anything bigger as this IS my first tablet (got it a year ago, just too see if digital art is something i should do :D) and i'm planning to get a bigger one pretty soon :D so my advice too you is this: if you're dead sure it won't catch dust after a week of hype, get an a5 :D Cheers!!!

I have a 6x8 (Wacom Intuos 3), and it's always seemed perfectly adequate, size-wise. I've heard that the only real advantage of a larger tablet is more allowance for drawing with your whole arm, in big, gestural strokes, and that sounds true, from my experience.

I have the Wacom 9x12 and I have used it for about an hour, I wish I had gotten a smaller model.
Preferring traditional media makes the Wacom a bit redundant anyway, I bought it on a whim and it sits in its box quietly.

I have the Wacom 6x8, I thought the 9x12 might have been the better way to go, but as it turned out the 6x8 does more than I can handle.
The general rule is when drawing are you used to making long sweeping strokes or more of a "wrist-flick" movement?
If you need the space for sweeping strokes then I would opt for the larger tablet, whereas for those people with smaller strokes the smaller tablet works just as well.
I wouldn't go for the smaller 6x4 tablet I believe? Because then you are sacrificing options and losing levels of sensibility on the drawing surface.
Just my 2 cents.

I have a 6X8 intuos3 for animation or whatever I want to do with it. I find that its the perfect size to both carry and use. 9x12 might be too big n why dish out the extra bill if the 6x8 does everything just like you want it. haha for me it worked out awesome

I have a 5x3 Genius tablet, mainly because it was all I could afford. D:
It works the same as a Wacom Bamboo for just 1/3 the price :D

I saw my friend try to carry a friggin 9x12 Intuos3 to cafes for cafe drawing every so often and it looked like trouble; it's just too big if you're planning to use it outside your home. I thought maybe 6x8 was the perfect size, got one, and I was completely right.
That said, I upgraded from a Graphire4 4x5 so I cannot say anything negative about getting a spanking new Intuos3.

Yeah, I think it depends on what size you're used to drawing. If you're used to drawing on copy paper/in sketchbooks than 9X12 is probably the biggest you'd want to go. Anything larger just feels awkward. However if you're use to standing up, drawing at an easel with an over sized pad of newsprint than the larger sizes might be better.

I bought just over a year ago a bamboo medium 4x6 for something like $75 (pricegrabber is your friend ;p ). I used it as a starter to see if I would like doing digital drawing (traditional fine arts is my background). I found it nice, then tried a bit on an intuos 3 and currently have an intuos 3 6x11 on iti's way to me now. I went with 6x11 as I wanted something closer to sketchbook size as I tend to do more sweeping lines and have a widescreen monitor (6x11 being close in proportion to widescreen). I think anything bigger would be too cumbersome to use for most people.
