The interview on CNN (http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/us/2008/11/28/eldridge.wa.10k.returned.komo) was interesting. The woman talking about employees trying to get everyone out of the store after the incident and people COMPLAINING about it.

You can't stop the SHOPPING!
OBVIOUSLY things are far more important than people. And that is why we celebrate Christmas, kids.

Nonono, evildisco...you buy the plasmas on the credit card so you can resell 'em on ebay and then have cash money for...PS3s...I mean, baby formula. Uh.

"the shrieking mob surged through in a blind rush for holiday bargains"
How much money does one need to save on a purchase invoke Holiday Bargain Bloodlust?

This goes to show you that the US is no where near a Socialism or Communism. Capitalism is here in full force and its more important than anything else.

What a waste.
In the article they said identifying the shoppers would be difficult but I think going over the checks written and credit cards used that morning might narrow down the search for the tramplers.
Then again, are the first people in more culpable than the people behind them that were perhaps pushing more?
Two words - online shopping.

I say lock 'em all up. That's a more realistic solution, right?

A little late for this, but if more people believed in the Buy Nothing Day (http://www.adbusters.org/campaigns/bnd)mentality, some poor soul would not of died.
Consumerism will never die in America.

Every time I read a story like this, I lose a little faith in humanity. It's disgusting. Seriously, if I was the one who was trying to get everyone out of the store after the incident and people were refusing to leave, I don't think I would be able to avoid freaking out at them. What the hell is wrong with these people?
Also, when the doors were busted down before opening, why was everyone not arrested for breaking and entering? Seriously, these people should not exist.

After reading that article I came across this (http://conceptart.org/forums/showpost.php?p=1869508&postcount=12) post from the favorite artist/painting thread. I think that's about what it looked like.

Guuuuys, you should be cheering!
The U.S. is in a recession, and yet these people can still muster the wherewithal and gumption in the face of economic adversity to come out and support their friendly local Wal-Mart, and in doing so, save the economy!
That man is a true martyr for the American way.
I salute their passion.

I feel super lame for this--maybe it's cause I'm getting "old," but I gotta add a disclaimer: people dying isn't really all that funny. sorry if I made light of it.
Empathy; Owen needs more of it.

I suddenly feel ashamed of being human...
Seriously why won't they charge all 2000 of those people with breaking and entering. They fucking broke though the door before the businees was open! Slap them all with a $10, 000 fine or something.
And come on, someone should be charged with manslaughter! Or how bout accessory to murder? Man shit like this pisses me off.

shit like this happens here all the time....but the scenarios a little different...
some big shit politician or media hugging social worker comes to some mass rallies and starts distributing shit...clothes, money ...watever...and the people rush over to grab it and BADABOOm....somebody gets crushed under the feet of our mob.
PEOPLE DIE.
YOU DONT GIVE A FUCK.
APATHY FUCKING APATHY.

Things like that can only happen if you get the combination of hysterical people and neglecting businesses. Talking is nice, but let your money show where your values are. I haven't been in a WalMart in about 5 years, I'd rather pay twice as much than buy there. Businesses don't care about words, they care about your money, only give it to businesses you think deserve it. The hysterical crowds, not much we can do about it.

I've only been to that place about 3 times over the last 5-6 yrs and everytime it feels like I'm preparing for an expedition into the JUNGLE. Park in Siberia, hike for miles, avoid aggressive customers, hunt for the elusive one or two things you need in miles of unkempt debris, be completely and totally ignored by the workers (even when you ASK REPEATEDLY FOR HELP!!!!!), and stand for hours at one open check-stand out of 30 whilst aforementioned workers gossip and text.
I hope that not all Wal-Warts are like that, but I'll be damned if I've ever been in one that hasn't.
