Dr Who concept - Davros [updated]

40 years of Dr Who, eh? Wobbly sets, Monsters that chase you at 2 miles an hour and spaceships that look like they were made out of a washing-up-liquid bottle and a cornflakes packet.

However, the stories were always great though, so I thought about maybe modernising a few of the Dr Who characters to make them a bit more up-to-date. Apparently the BBC are making a new series. :chug:

This is a Work-in-progress concept for Davros, who invents the now-infamous "Daleks" on the war-ravaged planet of Skaro.

I'm trying to work out:

A) Whether the composition works okay on this?

B) Whether the colours are a bit too unsaturated and cold.

C) I know the the guy behind Davros looks like M. Bison, he isn't meant to... :D

D) I haven't decided what to put in the background yet. It's supposed to be in a lab, so maybe some tanks with wierd creatures in them?

wow. everything looks pretty good so far. I would love to see those tanks with people in them in the background maybe have a glow come off those tanks and reflect it off the back row of people. Nice work overall :D

i like it a lot - the "m bison" character is really cool-lookin. The scarfed character (i'm assuming that's Dr Who? I don't know the series) seems a little stiff/unrealistic in pose, i'm not sure exactly why. I agree with Airetol, tho, i'd like to see some blue reflected on the scarfed character to help put him in the scene. Great work so far!

Great picture, colors are ok.

My only problem with it is: what are they doing. I lack a sense of what they are standing there for. Is it a conversation? Is it a showdown? The gestures, emotions and attitudes of the characters seem too undefined. Maybe it is because of the lack of background.

I'm sure it can be fixed by changing some details, maybe by making the direction of gaze more defined on some of the background characters. It is not really clear that they look at dr Who now.

I really like the picture though.

Airetal: Yep, I think it needed a background. I tried a version with blue tanks casting blue lights but it just didn't look right. Not sure about the contents of these tanks either. :confused:

Jens: Aaaaargh! You're right. This was on my mind with the "Black Hole" pic as well. I started using Photoshop instead of Painter so I'm working on different layers and not doing it on 1 layer as I do in Painter.

Adam: Hehe, I think I'll keep M. Bison. I'll try and integrate the Doctor more into the scene. If anything, he looks about 20 foot tall, which he isn't.

Erik: Hmn, I hadn't noticed that, but you're right. I guess I made the background characters too ambient. Also, I should try and get more action into these pics as it looks undefined, as you point out.
