Hi, I'm new to the board...The Daily Sketch is such a wonderful idea -- and I know it will be good practice/exercise for me.
I drew this on and off over the last few hours in a pchat room somewhere...I used some reference for the head from oDD's sources (page 1, hyena-05.jpg) though I didn't clean it up a whole lot.

Nice work all.

I was trying out some new stuff today in painter 8 today, am i the only one that thinks that its a downgrade compared to painter 7? I still havent found a painter8 brush that does exactly what i want it to, and i have already spent like 200 or more hours working and experimenting with it.

A Gnolian Foot Soldier scours the plains for his prey that he and his party are hunting for. A human slave that has escaped with several bags of grulmeat.

The punishment, if caught, will be the fight to the death against three more starving human slaves who will be free to gorge on his flesh if they defeat him.

Man o man! Such strong output today.

oDD, PoX, voide and (newcomer) asbestoshazard take the cake for me. oDD's especially, way to come at the topic from an entirely different angle! All I could think about was the old dog-headed armoured guy from the old AD&D Monster Manual...

Hunger_Artist speaks true, reference material (http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=hyena) is invaluable for a topic like this. Such a fine line between a dog-headed guy, a werewolf and a hyena-man.

RAWKIN GNOLL! I'm so punk!!! Yeah, good stuff today. I had a good time with mine, learned some things, happy with some parts of it, not so much others, but it was fun. Digs for the day: Pox, Zero Wave and Odd so far.

Well today is my "lazy day" But I was here off and on all day watching what you all posted. But I had a few comments.

Sone_one- I like the nice lean look, since hyenas I thought always were scavengers I didnt immediately picture them bulky, nice job.

Hazzard- Well done, I would LOVE to see that one colored. Cute little face, but that would be painful to hug him. then I read your caption.......

Voide- Oooooo ahhhh.... Nice mix of color and textures. Welcome to the noob-roster with me. :D

Beatnik- Hes a tad scary for how cuddly looking you made him. Eep!

ZeroWave- I like the idea you have going with the armor and the belly. Nice curves and composition for the side angle.

oDD- As always it is a pleasure seeing your work. The gooey meat-bloody-ish-ness turned out very well in your piece.

Well done everyone!! Cant wait to see tomorrows.

'Nother postcount=1 person, been lurking and working on DSGs when I find the time. Definetly experimenting in Photoshop here. Didn't time myself, and I think I should have put a bit more contrast in, but much fun anyways. It's tricky to get that hyena look without crossing into bear country. I think the ears need to be bigger on mine. oO

It's so much fun looking at all these, they're great.
(DraigAthar: She looks so natural! =) & voide: I love the detail on the second one)

Im with DraigAthar, we need more gnollgirls, heres mine.

http://medlem.spray.se/ksmolsen/image/Gnoll.jpg

asbestoshazard: i like the small stuff like the necklace and the piercing. Adds personality, good stuuf.

Hunger_Artist: First one looks like a real Dungeons&Dragons gnoll. I like the drool. Second one is better, cool bird.

oDD: great stuff as always.

nBT: It looks sick, the lack of fur disturbs me, in a good way. The second sketch is a bit too sketchy to comment though.

Mad Giraffe: Looks good. That hunchback adds alot.

PoX: looks peacefull. Nice and clean rendering.

Zerowave: Cool, would be cooler if you finished it. The furless face looks great.

Beatnik: He looks grumpy, i wouldnt touch his food for a 1000$.

Voide: Cool, the spearlike weapon the gnoll has in the BG looks cool. Looks great, although your second one is better imo. Good ones.

Rev: Another peacefull gnoll. loosk good.

phew.. theres a lot of you...

Hazzard: I like the little story you added. Good drawing too.

sone_one: Cool archergnoll. I like the fact that he is pretty skinny, makes him more believable as an archer. Cool.

Mykro: Punk is dead. :D

moops: Cool, looks like half monkey, half hyena.

rsnurkle: Looks like a cavepainting of a gnoll. i like the club.

Capt.Harlock: Cool drawing.

Retrosolid: Solid work, looks great.

cthorne: Cool. i like the black dots in the fur and the haircut is sweet. Good job.

Jeano: Big axe is good. Great work.

Thats all of you right?

ZeroWave and retrosolid, exceptional work. I would love to discuss the painting techniques both of you use to achieve your individual looks some time. I'm trying to break free of very old habits and expand my artistic breadth. Thank all of you for an opportunity to participate

First of all, i have to greet you all! This daily sketch group seems to be a very cool thing and will happily join you in with some of my works (when ive got some appropiate painting-programs - yep, no scanner at all...).

Well, keep on the good work!

Voide: I personally like your work the most... looks quite professional

Capt.Harlock: the muscles look cool - quite a brute

ZeroWave: in my opinion the fat belly fits perfectly to a gnoll - they really must be some dirty bastards...

Here is my number 35! leaned more heavily on the animal influence than the human influence. (basically, animal walking upright, and a lot more intelligent)
