Another excellent piece with 0 replies? What's up?

Anyway - I don't really have much to say except I like it, and would like to know what software was used to make it etc.

But this piece with it's subject matter should be right up Conceptart's ally, shouldn't it?

Noose, great mini-van, now all you need is a jr. soccer team.

there coulb be more detailing towards the front grill. There is a lot going on in the back of the van but the front is a bit empty..

the texture are the stongest part.

R_M- Thank you for the comp! and you are quite right! I got scimpy with the grill detail!..I do plan on returning to this peice to fix that very thing, I should realy try to make it reflecting the horizon...and maybe sketch in a few soccer dudes pileing in the back! :)

jelanen- thank you!

I like it, I think the windshield could use some dirtying up, and also where the van meets the ground, maybe some tire marks or shading to make it feel more connected to the ground.

Also, the ground could use some rocks or foilage, it seems barren, if you're going for the barren look, maybe some pebbles or some cracks in the ground.

Yeah, I don't understand this forum sometimes, the professionals get lots of views and responses, but the people who could really use the input don't get many comments. I guess this goes for me too, I usually browse the pics but seldom post replys. Until I recently put up some art of my own and was dissapointed not to recieve many responses.

I've seen you post regularly Noose and appriciate it. Hopefully my suggestions on your piece will work out for you-

Expen- Thank you!, I realy admire alot of the planet side art few of my heros worked their, :)

Davey Jones-Your suggestion of adding cracks is GOLD! thats what I had in mind yet never would have thought of! lol..I would love to rework the ground like the truck is sitting in an old dried out lake bed! thanks for the great idea.. and thank you much for the comp and crit, I know its been sparce lately,.. no c&c after hundreds of views can make you question your ability a little, but Ive seen some great artists on this site get loads of views and no replys.(so it must be normal). I figure it all depends on the day of the week and the population growth on these forums,....Im usualy jazzed if I just get one person who replys or likes something about the pic, and I feel honored if I get a crit from a legendary hero or pro!,(gives you the warm fuzzys)..(...even if he hates you-joke lol)... and if one pic yeilds notheing it just means I work twice as hard on the next ...Ill be keep my eye out for your work as well :)

-Glad my idea could help you out!
I was picturing a dried lake bed too, kind of like the salt flats down in Nevada. Of course, with that van, it could be a post-nuclear wasteland or something.

Well, I've only done one post of my artwork, but check it out, I'd like to hear what you think. I posted it a few days back in this area, it's titled Diablo 2 Fan Art.

Anyways, can't wait to see how you update your pic!

very nice! I think it belongs on a video game. I think it be more like heavily armed people in camoflage than junior soccer.

accidents_happen- hey thanks for the reply and comp :) !..and I agree a supply truck or APC vehicle suits it better,..R_M noticed it does have a slight resemblance to a mini van,lol...like a GMC safari or something lol
When I designed the truck I was thinking that this was just the front of it,.. like a big rig that pulled many fraight trailers, kind of a cross between a train and a Semi truck if you know what I mean :) I was also inspired by an armored car I saw at the intersection one day, and I asumed "in the futre it would be cool if thess things pulled armored boxes like trackless trains. so I put reinforced panels on it...

-Hey Noose!

Wow, I really like that grounded spaceship! The clouds in the background are especially impressive. Almost like a storm is coming and the pilot needs to repair his ship before it hits.

As for the small detail, I'm sure you could see it clearer if your picture was displayed at a higher resolution. I looked at the picture for a bit and then found the pilot and was like, "Cool Detail" So just because it's small doesn't mean it's wasted.

I still think you could do more work on connecting the ship and van to the ground with shadowing, etc. it'd just tie the piece together a bit more. Right now the ground looks a bit artificial. But hey, great stuff, I'm really liking it.

Glad you are liked it Davey J!..I know I left the ground a bit sparce, I realy would love to finish the ground in both pics, as soon as some real free time reares its head ;) in the ship pic I did put impact rolls in the gound around the landing gear, and have maped out(but not visible at this rez) some cracks for the dirt texture, like it is soft yet dry ground,.. Ill throw up some more paintings soon as I can... :)

-Hey Noose,

Just wanted to say congrats on your work here. Getting 4 stars on your post is no small acheivement with all the talent in this forum! I think it's great when some of us developing artists get notice and appriciation after all those posts we've done with only one or two responses. Great job, and keep up the good work!

NOOSE
December 12th, 2003, 03:58 PM
Davey Jones-thank you again, 4 stars would be ok... but I suspect maybe one or two are probably from some friends of mine I told to check out this site doh! lol ..as for acheivement goes Im just happy to make (small) money off something I realy enjoy and hearing peoples thoughts on your work that you dont know personaly is very cool, then you know they arnt just being nice because they know you! and if you think about it everyone is still a developing artist it would kind of suck if there was nothing left to learn...

I posted up a crapy flying machine doodle, I have now been trying to add some humor to my pics...say when are you posting your latest? :)

Pretty impressive work noose, how long have you been doing art with the pc? I love the depth on the "ogre at the gates" really cool, nice hairy gut too, good character to it,lifelike even.My hair always winds up looking like squiggles so *thumbs up*. My fave though is the mad scientist looking guy and the duck, great mood to it.I love your style, very eclectic and unique.I was wondering who your influences are...if you care to share that I would love to know.

Well since no one has given a proper "Conceptart.org" critique on this yet, I'll take a stab at it.

I like the 3D ones the most out of these. mostly because they are the only ones that have a smidgen of depth. I too have been working with combining 3D elements with 2d painting to get a new edge on my work. I think youre heading in the right direction with these, but don't be afraid to push the limits with your lighting. experiment with some of your lights by changing up the colors, positions, and settings to get some new unseen effects on your subject.

on the pieces with your figures you will find that playing with lights and such in the 3D world will help tremendously when painting in 2d. You need to apply some of the things I mentioned before to these figures; they totally get lost in the environment. An overabundance of texture throughout your piece will also cause your main subject to get lost. Force the viewer to focus on your main subject by creating more focus to that area. The more detail you add to an area the more in focus it will appear. Most importantly with figures, is to know the figure. even if it is not human, we humans can associate with and appreciate more the creatures that have similarities to anatomies we are familiar with. Study anatomy of all creatures and apply what you've learned to your work. Even if it something totally abstract, it will look much more impressive.

another important thing is to keep posting. Here.

Mitch
