@jskotte: Takker:)
@Joce: Thanks man, about the left hill... selection tool to get the crisp edges and some work with patience(my biggest flaw:P). I used some textured brushes to get some ares to blend better and to add some final-ish touches.
Unless youīre standing with on foot in the coffin I wouldnīt worry about how late or early you started:)
@Eddieee: Thanks man glad you like them:).
No im not gonna touch that one anymore the composition is weak and the lighting is inconsistent:/
@Fumble: Thanks man, I see you arlready started on those studies:)
@zxcv: Neither do I???:/

Post 256 look reeeaaaal nice. :) And for a fist ever painting, the acrylics are gobsmackingly wonderful!!!!! I just love how you can layer them and get all sorts of textures and really rich colours. Might I suggest either using the flat of your chalk or more organized hatching with the life drawings? The circular strokes really make the forms harder to read.

Damn damn damn.Amazing sketchbook and studies.I love your enviroments.I see that you are trying to incorporate some Algenpflegers techniques. But it works very well.Your still lifes totally remind me of his work. Also Adrian Wilikins did the same one http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_82tD4SLQCNA/THUefkHAfBI/AAAAAAAAAZg/dHCtN3O1908/s1600/Enviro-study9.jpg if you haven't seen it.Love your sketchbook.Keep it up man.

That chow is great! A bit rough...but great! really like his costume, for some reason the knot at his belt level really caught my interest.
I'm not sure the perspective is 100% perfect, but certainly 95%
And that's at least 5.54% better than I can do! :DD

Make sure that when you decide to switch bgs in an image from a warm to a cool one, that you make sure that some of that colour is reflected in the char. Her skin looked alright because of this in the eariler ones but when you added all the blue and green she started to look very red.
What am I saying... :P Awesomeness!!!!
DK_sketch
September 10th, 2010, 11:59 AM
@karantina: Thanks alot:). I use photoshop, and sure i can share my brushset iīll se if i can figure out how till next time:). Btw my brushset is nothing special I hardly use anything other than basic round...
@Greywoods:Thanks man. The knot.... well it might be that the red is clashing alot agains the hands and armor:)
@jskotte: Thanks alot. Im happy you like the color scheme since i chnaged quite a lot last second:)
@Ricardo Robles: Thanks man glad you like it:)
@alexson: thanks man:)
@raminafshari: Thanks alot, and here is one more drawing:D
@Pixie Trick: thanks pixie. The change in background was because i felt the character didnīt stand out enough so i might have overdone the contrast between the character and background a bit...:P
A single picture update again... gotta do some studies to fill the void:)

Pixie Trick
September 12th, 2010, 08:02 AM
I agree with the decision to change the bg (looks awesome!), but I think also doing a bit of hue shifting on her skin might have helped a bit. :)
This latest one is also very awesome! Only thing I can say right now is a) it looks like it's underwater, and b) the hilight on the guy's face is brighter than on his hand which doesn't really make sense because his arm/hand would be blocking some of the light + the hand is closer. I think there would be a nice bright bit at the base of the index finger.

mmm love those hues!
Though sometimes I feel like you're over saturating something instead of making it darker.
This is somewhat evident in your magenta and teal hues.
that way a part of your images is not in its correct value or saturation, because some hues look more saturated when combined with a different value. (Chroma)
idk if you've read this (http://www.huevaluechroma.com/) already.
Keep it up! some hueshifts here are pretty awesome! :]

Don't really have much to comment on the digital studies - good job as always. But I would like to note that you pencil work has improved a lot more. I remember that I last time commented that your pencil stuff needed a more confident line - you got it now, boy. Congratulations, level up!
The free style faces are still a biiiiit off. The issues are with the form. I would recommend some practice with drawing human faces broken down into solid simpler shapes, bones etc. PS: looove the bird sketches.

Jasper_
October 1st, 2010, 11:24 AM
Hey man you've got some really nice studies in here. I've just started doing movie still as well. You can find so much better reference material through films than searching images on the internet. That last image is cool, but I think you could make it even better by giving the girl an expression on her face, even just a subtle one. Something to allow the viewer to sympathize with the character easier. It looks like you were going for the 'accepted defeat' look, but at first it seemed like she was unconscious or maybe already dead. Even having her staring at the soldiers that are about to execute her might work well, giving her a sense of defiance until the end. Of course this is really an opinion thing so take it how you want. Your rendering technique on the face and hands of her character is looking great however.
Keep going man!

Oh hey, I like the moviestills!
Watch the highlight on the babies there, it almost looks a bit artificial. Did you use colordodge? Keep in mind what kind of surface the human skin has. It could have some strong highlights like that if it was wet but even then I think it'd be a bit too strong.
It kinda works on the heads though, cause it looks like it's lit from within. But not so much on the stomachs.
Keep pumping out stuff man!

What!? I'm on the last page already!!? I want to see mooore!!
Really great job so far!
I really like all those still life you have been doing,
particularly the ones with a bit of more detailed lighting effect like this one (http://attachments.conceptart.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=942725&stc=1&d=1269869467) or this one (http://attachments.conceptart.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=952273&d=1270924576)
Your landscapes are getting better and better also!
Love the japanese lantern path from here (http://attachments.conceptart.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=780603&stc=1&d=1253223877)
That skin tone study (http://attachments.conceptart.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=1051749&d=1283020175) has some nice rendering and tones.
You could try out something more extreme, more light sources or more colours perhaps.
Find a new challenge!

Hey man this last illustration became great!
My only suggestion: Iīd try to integrate more the face with the heat of the image; you achieved a good tone in her left hand, but the face lightening seems to correspond to a colder lightsource.
The other elements looks really nice, love the reflections in the helmet and the houses in the background. And this studies are cool, quick and very effective.

Nice face rendering and you've catched mood pretty good. However I still think, that her had should a little bit smaller and pushed toward crowd, to show a glimpse of her neck (because right now I can't feel that her neck is in stocks). Also I believe that we should be able to see some of her body, even though mostly she's behind stocks.
Anyway - great rendering - keep pushing yourself forward, man.

You are killing it man, absolutely killing it. 5 god damn stars. Only crit I can really offer is to pay attention of the balance of saturated and unsaturated colors to push focal points.

Really good stuff here. Just watch that last black and white painting--her arms are really long. Just take a look at how long her humeri must be underneath the clothing (if she were to straighten her arms they would go down to like her knees!).

Your brushwork has really improved! The master studies are particularly nice. :) You should double check the face studies I think though- a lot of them lean towards the right (just flip that page of b&ws) and a lot of the eyes are out of line. Keep up the studying!
