Hello everybody :)
I am student on Mechanical Faculty in Belgrade, but i always loved to, and still love to draw. Ill try to do my best and to improve my skills. Hope this community will help me to progress. I cant promise sketch/day but ill try to draw as much as i can. My English is not the best so feel free to correct my errors :)

Areit, a few pointers you might wanna pick up on, or not, that is entirely up to you;) First of, use your paintbucket, or gradient tool, and create a simple background, so that your blending of tone does not happen over a white space, as that just makes everything look flat, boring and acrylic. Do more studies, even though the ones you already have are really quite good:) I love the woman with the black hair and stuff, so keep that stuff flowing. I should also point out that varying up your stuff would make it more interesting:)

about your charcoal questions:

It looks like you used vine charcoal on those pieces ( its the skinny, light-weight charcoal). Those are used for either fast gestures or underdrawings for longer figure drawings. They are used for that because it is easily erasable. As for Charcoal in general, it is a fickle mistress. A lot of times, I personally, use the side of a stick to block in mass and planes, then smear into the white areas, then erase highlights and define shadows with the point of the stick. Thats what i do in figure drawing classes, but there are a lot more ways to use charcoal. It just helps to experiment.

I really like your open canvas pieces, keep up the good work

Thanks ppl for your comments and suggestions :) I really appreciate it.

Mischeviouslittleelf Yes ill do as you suggest, hope soon ill post some paintings :) Thanks

Equality72521 Well i use charcoal just for line practice. One painter suggested that i draw with them and try to do my "lines" just with one move(drawing curve of the nose or ear in one "stroke" etc.).and to put darker&thicker/lighter&thinner lines depending on the light. I draw on A4 format maybe i should use thinnest charcoal?? Or maybe work on bigger format of paper.
Thaks for reply :)

The last figures you posted are awsome. And I think the second attempt at that last face is the best by far.

I love how you use shade with pencil so methodically; the little neat marks that build up the shadows. :]

The second of the faces is definitely my favorite. I'd need to see a photo to know which is the most accurate though (either second or fourth, I'd think).

Great work though, I don't know what you have against your hatching, it looks good to me in most of your pictures. I especially like the sketches in post #5! Keep it up! :D

Shalite: Thanks m8, my brother said that i have to loosen my hand when drawing and he is totally right (he finished design school, and i always admired his lines and shading skills)
Foolsauce: Thanks :) Ill upload picture in the same post with drawings so you can see and compare.
septomin: Well i just passed exam with 9!!! So happy. Thanks for comments :)

Here i am again. Had some time so started with bone studies. Only alien is portrait of a girl i did month ago(i think :*)). I used myself as reference, sitting in front of big mirror i drew arms and then i would drew bone position. It was fun to use latin names for bones, it is easier to draw something when you give it name :)

thanks for the great comment on my sketchbook, in terms of drawing, anatomy studies are great , however i feel you will be better rewarded by learning perspective a bit better.

there are moments in your studies where it shows that you dont have a clear grasp of how things tilt in space. try to draw a couple simple shapes and then try to rotate them and tilt them, and then upgrade to more complex shapes.

Thanks Jimenez3rd for C&C :) And ur totally right when you say "there are moments in your studies where it shows that you dont have a clear grasp of how things tilt in space". Really, sometimes i stop drawing and think where this thing goes out or how to put it ....and what a funk!!! I started with arm bones so my goal was to learn "basic" where, and how bones are positioned, then i would flesh-it-up...but sometimes it was reversed process! Anyway thanks for support, always need it :)

Here are some more scribbles ....pretty rough and with lots of errors :|

Stevan
December 10th, 2008, 03:37 PM
Here are latest done on A3 so i had to merge them (A4 scanner) in MS PAINT!!!! I've been working on line studies parallel with bones.....need to learn to control pressure of pencil....to loosen my arm :) Hope something on this last sketches shows progress ??

PS
Some stuff are upside-down :( Sorry

You have a very nice shadingstyle. Really inspiring, cuz mine could use some improvement :)

December 15th, 2008, 09:51 AM
Looks like your only problem is that of foreshortening. In one of the sketches you drew an arm with the forearm pointing towards you, but the line where the forearm joins the arm suggests that the forearm is turned to the side.

Really nice studies ! You've improved since the first post! Try to vary the stuff, draw from life, paint, or some creative stuff ! Keep it up

You anatomy studies are really interesting, just scrolling down the pages of your sketchbook I can see the improvements you're making: your lines have loosened up a great deal and the shading in the last post is also pretty good.
Also, studying anatomy is extremely important but don't let it keep you from drawing other stuff, like the portraits on the first page... anyway keep drawing and posting!
