I have doodled alot since i was little and took an art class in highschool. But after having a horid art teacher I stoped drawing for awhile. Now 20 I want to get back into the passion of drawing. But i dont know the right path. I want to draw good. Not good like devinci lol but good like Some of the concept art I seen in Pirates of the caribean or Metal gear and many other games/movies. None of that anime garbage that seems to be soo popular. and since it seems to be big now i should learn to really use photoshop or painter. Im planing on starting in school for a simple AS in graphic design. But if i get good enough between now and then mabey i can go for a master in game art design and such.

So how should i really go about it? Since i seen alot of the topics from you pros really dont agree on what way to go. some say do this and others say never. So im kinda confused.

and with digital art stuff like photo shop i seen. how do u go about those? paint it or draw it then paint it or mabey even just rough out scan and paint. Kinda confusing. Im really interested in the program offered By concept art tho. but i dont live anywhere near the location so thats a no.

Well heres some pics i drew latley to try to get myself back up and going. The troll and girl with sword
are pics i drew from some worked i liked and the girl with butteryfly is somin i just drew to pratice the human form a little.

Edit. I also read some people saying that i should get a manqine and draw like Alot of those and then take an Muscle book and draw in the muscles over all the maniqines. That sounds like an idea to me lol

Well, first thing I would say, is do as much as you can in your spare time. Get a copy of bridgmans ebooks or loomis etc. Just be dedicated. Then research what colleges and art schools are in your area. Find which ones will accept you with your qualifications and apply. Go to the open days to see what they do, and choose the one which you feel suits you best. Once you do that, get back to me :P

Get Betty Edwards "Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain" from your library. Do the exercises, ignore the "science".

Now download and read all of those. (ta to Acid for continued hosting after many moons)..

Browse around the forums.

Practice, study, fail, swear at canvas or Photoshop, study, swear more, repeat.

I don't think it counts as a "body study" if you aren't actually looking at a body. Reference the poses you are doing.

You don't have enough muscle memory yet (I'm in the same boat).

Draw from life.

Get a mirror that you can use to practice drawing your own feet and face and hands. It's free (if you already have the mirror) and you will learn a lot.
