No one has really mentioned the wow expansion on the forums. I was just wondering if anyone has picked it up yet and what it's been like with the mass death knight flood I'm sure everyone is experiencing on the servers.
The art direction looks incredible so far, not sure how well it has translated into actual game experience though.

I'm not playing it right now, but my friend hasn't slept in days. He was excited about being lvl 80 the last time we talked.

My dad preordered a copy for me (on top of his) and agreed to fund my monthly subscription. He's playing on his account obviously but I refused his offer to avoid being sucked in... for now. Thus, I have a WotLK box sitting right in front of me, taunting me :S.
From the little I've played on his account, however:
a) WotLK's art and design direction is magnificent. When they have so much money being cashed in, obviously, the artists and designers working in the game would be amazing.
b) Unlike 4 years ago, every talent tree is arguably viable. This is a great thing. In the past, people were essentially pigeon-holed into one spec. Some builds had literally one button to press (Seal of Command + Auto-attack for a 2004-05 Ret Paladin, anyone?). It seems all classes have developed for the good in terms of gameplay. Burning Crusade went into this direction but didn't quite grasp it yet. WotLK, however, has took all classes and specs further and everybody plays nicely now.
c) Having seen the evolution of WoW since its beginning, I think WotLK caters very well to both the casual players and the more hardcore. There has been complaints from the #1 guild in the world about content being too easy, but I'd rather have that than have the days of Molten Core all over again. For those who didn't play back then, the old 40-man raids had the best gear by a large margin and it was hardly accessible to 99% of the population. I had to dump 12 hours a day to play the game and I wish I had that time back. Now, I am very happy that people with full time jobs, like my dad, can enjoy the game without destroying their lives. Of course, some people play for days without sleeping, but that's their issue :S.
With WotLK, there is more content for the less-hardcore, especially with the option to go into a 10-man raid for every single instance, not just Karazhan and Zul'Aman.
But I ain't playing it. :)
