went to see it last night, awesome swedish vampire movie, based on equally awesome book, check it out if you have a chance :)

Story stays away from cheap frights and builds a fairly understated and nuanced story about a young bullied boy in a swedish suburbs who befriends the new girl in his apartement complex, a girl who smells strange, never gets cold despite the cold winter nights and who only comes out to play after the sun sets.

On the other hand, it doesnt skip out on the gore and carnage that comes from having to kill people to stay alive, theres nothing pretty about the vampires need for blood in this one, its violent and amoral, but presented as a means for survival rather than something intentionally evil.

If you want some alternative vampire fare, I can highly recommend this one.

This film was incredible. I've not seen such a fresh take on vampires in I don't even know how long. Lost of great little plots throughout the movie, it got a standing ovation when I saw it.

I watched this movie two days ago in an effort to prove that modern vampire lore hasn't been forever tainted by the teen angst-fest that is Twilight. I wasn't disappointed.

Seeing the movie has really made me want to read the book. I hear that it delves a lot more into the history of the main characters, and that it provides a richer background for the story overall. Still, the movie was highly satisfying in its own right. I'd definitely recommend it.

I heard the that the director of "Cloverfield" was getting ready to remake this movie and delve a little deeper into the original book than the current movie does.

Sounds a bit stupid remaking a movie that's got good reception all over and try to americanize it? But that's hollywood...

I haven't seen this movie yet. Want to see it though. :)

There is another movie coming as well based on another book by Ajvide, Handling the Undead

That was really , really good.

If you happen to live near an art-house type cinema go see it.

Edit: and stop with the pointless remakes.

Subtitles are not scary if you can read.. /rant

Now this I can get behind. A vampire love story where the vampires don't sparkle in the daylight (I'm making the evil eye at Twilight).

Here we go again . . . :-(

btw the movie is awesome, i cared about the characters
and i liked the fact that they didn't over explained everything with dialogue.

if i want answers or didn't catch something
i buy the book (on the mail)
or talk with someone about the movie,
is more fun that way to figure it out than babysitting the audience.

again great movie, pacing and visuals.

and to complete my rant post, no one here likes to see movies with subtitles
. . whatever . . . so now we get an american version . . . pffft

and of course i wonder how much stuff they are going to "edit"
to make a profit "G" movie, cause "R" movies don't make as much money.

end of rant :carnifex:

Unfortunately, this is very true. We Americans love us our dumb movies. Why else would Meet The Spartans get #1 box office?

Though, to be fair, I don't think we're likely to see an Americanized version of Pan's Labyrinth.
