Hi All,
Just kicking off a new thread for the model I'm starting. It's a bit of a departure from my usual fantasy/demonic/steampunk safety bubble.
Having seen Eagle Eye recently at the cinema, I've got a bit curious about Drone aircraft and the kid in me thinks they are so totally awesome.
I originally thought some kind of miniaturised weapons platform would be cool, kind of like the US military Predator Drones, but after thinking of the scale issues, I decided to go with a remote observation Drone.
The concept for the model is a near future soldier, probably from some alternate timeline US army, who is part of a scouting division. As a specialist trooper, it is his job to launch these short range drones from what is essentially a compact railgun.
I'm thinking waaaaay ahead, but hopefully when it comes to modelling and painting I can avoid some of the near future soldier cliches. I think techy body armour is a given, but I want the rest of his equipment to be based on top of the range current stuff, anchoring it more in reality. But, we shall see, I figured a cliche done well is better than an "original" idea that looks shit when put into practice.
Oh and I figured the rail gun would have a hell of a kick, so for stability the lower leg armour will have pneumatic spikes that shoot out to anchor him.
I've included a pic of the better sketches, and the actual drone. The drone is made from some model aircraft wings hacked apart and a load of plastic tube.
