Hey, you guys, could someone tell me if this is maybe a pretty good graphic tablet? I dont have much money to waste so I was wanting to buy it off of ebay (I only have $40 to waste on something right now, with shipping and handling :P) http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2767154741&category=3680 Ive never had a graphic tablet so i dont know whats good :P lol, if one of you sees something better than the one i was thinking of getting on ebay for maybe the money i have or less please respond. Also, the programs I was thinking of using this on (I dont know if it matters) is Paint Shop Pro, OpenCanvas (im loving that program, make a forum section just for that! :) ), Painter, and PhotoShop.

I am interested to see what is said... I would like to get a tablet but I don't really have the cash for such happy things. so what is a realitively inexpensive tablet? where should people in my position start? or should we just wait and continue to work on the whole pen/pencil/marker/brush on paper thing?

ok this is the wrong section i think for this but ill put up my two cents
a aiptek 1200u is a nice sized tablet and comes with a high lpi and 512 pressure levels, its a 12 inch x 9 inch work area and works with photoshop and painter 7 etc. i have one for my own use and having used wacoms , the only thing missing is the brush pen accessories and the tilt function, and i have heard that aiptekk are producing the air brush accessories for the first quarter of next year, so they may just become a very good cheap alternative to the wacom giant
also the aiptek 1200u is about 90 dollars shop around you might ge one cheaper

wrong forum for this....
anyway don't "waste" money on a tablet. first you get what you pay for. these lesser tablets will fill you with frustration and can't do half of what the better tablets can. don't get aiptek either, they may be cheaper but you need to use batteries in the stylus. BIG PAIN!! plus that extra 512 pressure levels (total of 1028) makes all the difference. go for a wacom... trust me and millions of others. keep checking ebay daily for a good one. if you can save more money, get an intuos or intuos2. if need be for the time being get a wacom graphire until you have the extra cash.

I have the Aiptek 12000u. It's the first tablet that I've had, and I've got to say, I've read about all the different things that the wacoms can do, and I'm actually glad that I got this one first. It's a good way to learn how to use a tablet, and it does plenty for me at this point. It was a gift so the money wasn't a part of my own personal issue, but they are much cheaper than the wacoms. I'm going to keep my aiptek until I have extra cash, and then I probably will be getting a wacom to play with, but this will do me just fine for now.
The only thing that I have to say is that the batteries for the stylus are a pain (as stated above), and you have to be REALLY careful when replacing them. when you unscrew the back off of the pen, there's nothing re-enforcing the little metal thing that holds the battery, and I actually broke my first pen somehow when I replaced the battery. The pens are only 10 bux, but still, it's a pain.
Anywho, whatever tablet you choose, have fun!

I've got my 9x12 intuos. I've had it for five years and there's not one damn thing wrong with it. It's awesome. I haven't even had to replace the pen nib yet. So I'd hold off until you can get an intuos... 1 or 2. I know the graphire is pretty limeted, but it's a nice tablet for around $100. I'd really like to try one of those $3500 cintiq's. Only 512 levels of pressure, but I'm sure it's still pretty sweet.

I would say save up a little more money and go for the better ones. I'm using a wacom intuos2, its easy to clean plus its cordless. I'm surprise that the pen tip actually last so long. I took a part time job during my school just to get it but its really worth the money. Until now it hasn't gave me any big problems.

well i can tell you from experience that this particular tablet is SHIT. pardon my language but this tablet blows. aside from being cheaply made, it will probably not run on your system. the company wnet out of business and you will not be able to get any support. secondly they have an windows XP driver that does not work. so if you have a mac, you are screwed because it was built for 8.6 and the drivere is still a piece of shit. most people run on osx now. basically it will sit around . it wont run on anything. its cheap but a big waste of money. christmas is right around the corner, ask for the new graphire 3 it will serve you well and u can actually use it.
my jamstudio tablet sits under my bed, only because i havent got the chance to throw it off a building yet.
just my two cents.

I use Genius Wizardpen and it's quite fine. It's a bit small (5x4) but many artists (including me) like smaller tablets.
Photoshop and Painter works perfect with it the specs are quite good and you can't beat the prize. :)

I've had an old Wacom pen partner for proly 6 years now and it's more than paid for itself. Just waiting till I can scrape the money together to upgrade to an intuos. Any of you that have one, just how well does the tilt detection work with painter or photoshop?
