Hey,

I'm seriously passionate about animation & illustration and would like to attend school for it. I was always nervous that my portfolio wasn't good enough or it would be strong for something else other than what my goal intended to be.

Do you guys recommend that I should go to undergraduate school for animation or illustration now? What are the advantages or disadvantages of doing it right away or studying it in grad school?

I don't know what kind of education is important in this field in the future. Should I go to an art school for undergrad that would teach me more about things like art history, critical thinking/writing, ect rather than jump the gun and go right into animation/illustration? Like for example a school like MCAD and Cooper Union may not be crazy animation or illustration like I want it, but it offers a good art education and mental experience as well.

Sorry for sounding like such a newbie but I'm kind of worried and I'm over analyzing.

Thanks.

I honestly don't understand your question. If you don't go to art school for undergrad, what would you do instead?

Sorry, I'm editing the post now to make it clear.

I think you're making a false distinction. You really need to research schools more. A BFA from any school is going to require a full academic course load, irrespective of your major.

Thanks, good point! I guess I researched more about the programs than the degrees!
Sorry for bringing up such a silly topic. Looking for colleges killed my braincells apparently.
