Found this link through Fubiz. It's a demonstration of a new gestural operating system, which is a fancy way of saying that it's like the holographic screens characters use in pretty much every sci-fi movie. It's an impressive looking piece of tech, but impressive doesn't equal practical. Unless you were doing some hardcore finger painting, I think this would be a little too unwieldy for artistic purposes. (3D Modeling aside-- for that, it would be amazing.)

Watch the video here: G-speak: Minority Report for Real (http://www.fubiz.net/blog/index.php?2008/11/15/2398-minority-report-for-real)

Eh, I have a hard time imagining how that would be even slightly practical in the commercial realm. Using it for development of any kind, that is.

It see it more as an over-elaborate presentation tool, which even then a simple power point presentation would be much easier to do. ;\

I'm all for crazy new technologies, but this one seems way too impractical. Also, I would imagine I'd feel kind of silly waving my arms around in the air making gun-hand gestures.

It's kind of like Wii Music vs Rock Band/Guitar Hero... Tactile response is way cooler than waving your hands around in the air.

This is really cool. I would love to be able to do that. Having a large touchscreen that you can move things around on is really neat. No more hand cramps from using the mouse.
Just give it some time...it is still new technology and it will soon be more affordable and practical. In maybe five years.

Okay, this is a bit off the topic, but did anyone ever watch CNN during the election? They had the newsreporter on as a hologram...anyone know if this was for real or if it was a fake?
