"Welcome to the Tea Cozy. A little place to rest and kick your heels up along your
travels from here to there. The fire is always crackling and the tea freshly brewed."
~Visanne Bechal, Tea Cozy Owner

Here's my ode to the teapot primitive - a sanctuary for a wonderful lil' gnome and all those who wander by. Created in 3D Studio Max 5.0 with 72,140 polys. Textures in Photoshop 7.0. I custom painted textures and also photo manipulated some of my own photographs. There are a couple of standard Max textures, too. For more details on modeling, lighting and texturing, please visit my website: http://www.suzannevisaya.com.

I tried to get a screenshot of the wireframe but it just looked like a jumbled mess. The one above is just ok. If anyone has a good suggestion to capture a good wireframe of this, please send it my way.

Hope you enjoy this as much as I enjoyed creating it. This is the first work I have submitted to conceptart. I couldn't find any mention of a dimension limit for images, so I hope my pic isn't too large. If it is, just let me know and I'll load a smaller one.

Thanks for letting me share!! C&C's please!

Thanks Landmate and Forge! I wanted to create something I hoped people would find cozy - a place they'd want to visit. I'm glad you two have said I pulled that off! :)

You nailed cozy with this. I love the details, like the weather vane, the wisteria(at least the flowers look like wisteria), the thatch, the patch of purple flowers, the door shape and the wispy smoke coming from the chimney. I wish I knew more about the technical angle of modeling to critque there.
The one tweak i would suggest is altering the lighting slightly. I'm not sure if this is mean to be a 2D or what medium you plan on using this for. I think with some minor tweaks you could achieve an even more cozy feeling. By darkening it a bit the windows will pop out and reinforce the house as the focal point. Also the smoke gets lost against the clouds, and since this is such a great feature its a shame to lose it. I messed with a shrunken(<-is that a word?) image just as an example.

Anyways keep up the great work.

Oh and i might get flamed for this but a guy named Thomas Kincaid(sp?) paints stuff real cozy like. In fact he's made a fortune by tapping into peoples feelings about cozy.

Hey Scrubbin Bubbles. Thanks for the mock-up above. The scene has more depth now. I agree that by changing the lighting I can make the cottage pop out more. I've been itching for time to make some adjustments to this, but I've been cleaning the house and getting everything ready for Thanksgiving and all my family that'll be staying the weekend. I hope to have a new scene to show next week. Please check back then.

beautiful environment. I love the emotion and mood that it conveys.

extremely well done.

just a thought for your wireframe troubles.

render the entire image out in default grey diffuse color.

then apply same material with the wireframe box checked in the mat editor.

overlay the wireframe on top of the grey render in photoshop and play with blending modes until you get the result you want. If I understood your process correctly I am sure it should turn out at least a bit better than taking a screenshot.

hope it helps. great work!
