Something new, took forever and there are parts that should just be erased! The best parts Jason Manley helped with. Many thanks to Jason!
I will not say too much on what this is for exactly. It is a little early for that and there are rules. But I?m sure you can tell the context.
This was done in Painter 7 with some help from PhotoShop.

its look solid Jon! really well done i like the paths of light streaming through out, it really adds a counter tension to the diagonal
I was noticing that some of the darks in he pic don't guide my eyes as much as they could, like the darks in the starkness of the trees upper portion seems equal to the darks in the figure and beast, seem to me it would need more atmosphere to push it back,. the flow of the hair redirected also would help the flow of the action as well
Also u have some great warm cool variations going on with that beast where as it seems missing in he figure and elsewhere, making it s bit monochromatic a bit a lot of this maybe how it shows up as a lil JPEG but its what i noticed i think the composition is great.
great to see more of your work , you are an inspiration

That's a very interesting piece. I really like the creature in the foreground. What is that blue thing in his hand? Thanks for the inspiring work!

I must say Jon...I love this piece...I know what specific game it's for as well but I won't say hehe...so as to not get you in trouble. I absolutely LOVE the poses that you use. I know a lot of times you intentionally make sweeping strokes with people's anatomy and change things up a tad and I love it! The poses you place your people/creatures are so unique and refreshing. You definitely have created your own niche...I can tell your work from a mile away now. I was reading spectrum the other day and turned the page to one I hadn't seen that you had done before and I knew it was you before I looked at the name. I love your stuff keep it coming.

Looking good!
Critwise:
I suspect a logo will go on the top due to the lack of stuff happening there. There are a lot of non figurative contrasted stuff there tho, that perhaps could be flattened/dimmed.
The legs on the female looks a bit flat pose-wise.
I would be tempted to add a red edge on the shadow on the foremost arm/shoulder on the female, but I'm on a red edge spree right now so I can't be trusted on that. :G I just think the skintone looks a bit dirty there compared to the other shoulder.

Damn thats great !!
I'm sort of having problems with that sword, if its really that bright it should throw some blueish lights on the girl's skin, at least on her arm in shadow. I also think it doesn't go along with the overall composition, I guess you wanted to make warm-cool contrast with the sword but I think it is a little too harsh that way.
The composition is a bit confusing, is the girl looking at the monster ? Or is the monster already behind her ?
I laughed out when I saw that little joke of yours, The spiral of the tongue in the golden section ? Nice !! :) And that contrast of the tongue and sword is amazing, straight line vs Spiral. Was it intentional ? If yes, then you're damn intelligent, too. :)
Awesome work mister !

Always a pleasure to see your stuff! The color/textures you've got going in the creature and the female are way too cool. Your angles, viewpoint and dark/light composition here is really fun.
I'd have to agree with sym7 on the observations, (though you didn't say you really wanted any crit.). I'm sure you see them already, as well as other things we don't. The darkness of the tree/column shape as it moves up the painting bothers me. I'd be tempted to lighten it or gray it a step or two to push it back just a little. eh...I understand why you've done it the way you have...maybe I should...just ...be..quiet... probably a moot observation, since the title/text will most likely cover the top portion of the painting anyway.
More, please

i love it when you post things.
yah, i agree that her posture, specifically the orientation of her legs is a little wiggy. i think that if you tilted the camera back to a level horozontal plane it would become much more obvious. but honestly it doesnt really bother me. your style has a kind of loosness to it which i think forgives or allowes for this sort of thing.
"Edit" wait a minute,,, shes probably got one leg off of the ground right? if this was your intention,,, then nevermind all of that. good work. :)
right on.

"Jurrassic Park" right?
I'm really digging the two figures in the foreground, they've got all that Foster love about them. The anatomy of that dino-beast is seriously giving Lars a run for his money, and you KNOW that's saying a lot ;) The woman, of course, is divine with her Jon Foster signature, tension-driven, stiff-limbed-goodness pose.
The background however is leaving me a little cold, (Granted that's not saying much as you know, I'm not a real background driven guy myself.) I'm finding it to be a little too messy. I miss seeing your huge clean shapes used more as a graphic element than a prop, (Like that piece you did of Aura Sing jumping in front of that big column thingy with all the hoses.)
That aside your abilities keep driving me back to the drawing table... Er, tablet.

PS- you doing Spectrum this year?

Hey, thanks to all for their insight. There is not one point that was brought up that I could argue with. Wish I could but my conviction for any of the decisions I made on this piece is missing. But it is an eye opener in other respects and I hope to learn what I can from it.
Hi sketch, it is a very silly laser weapon. It is shaped like a paddle and you hold the round end. Not much fun to paint just seemed silly.
This is a star wars cover so the light saber had to be in it. I wish that that was not the case but the Lucas people feel that it help the buyer identify what the product is. Makes me a little ill just to type that out.
Hudnut, thank you! This piece may not be deserving but I love your work and you helped put a smile on my face.
Brokencow, wish there was a close up that was fun. I tried to find something but could not bring myself to do it.
Imp Head, Prismacolor, Kaini, Prometheus, Sym7, thank you all for your time and energy. It has all been a great help. Thank you many times over!
Mindcandyman, I have been following your work my man and you are making gains! Keep up what you have been doing. You may be frustrated at times but you are moving forward. And thanks for the kind words.
