This has been floating around the t'internet for a while now, but might as well bring it into the conscious of this forum seen as that everyone seems to be setting up threads complaining about how Hollywood is raping anime. Here's the wiki-article on it anyway. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neon_Genesis_Evangelion_franchise#Live_action_film )

I really need to stop coming to the Entertainment and Media portion of the lounge. It makes me too sad.

I know, someday a studio will probably announce that it's bought the right to remake all Studio Ghibli films into Live-action films. (probably Disney, seen as that it redubs the Ghibli films) This whole trend of turning animated films into live action films is so completely pointless, it makes Ted Turner's en-mass colourization of classic films seem okay.

DBZ... fine, since it has been done before.

Ninja Scroll? It's still okay.

Evangelion? Okay, you can stop now, movie makers.

If the live-action trend hits Ghibli films, I will not be amused. At all.

"movie makers" with lots of quotation marks.

Well, what can you do. It's really annoying, but filmmakers are out for the money. Eva is/was perfect in the way of storyline and characterization, and I think any series like that would have eventually been picked up by Hollywood. *shrugs* I'll protest the movie by not watching it.

Maybe for Eva but I might watch the Dragonball movie because I think it has the potential to be "so bad, it's good".

If you don't like these live action remakes, don't go to see them. What is so hard about simply ignoring them?

Stop complaining and go draw.

It's fun to bitch about stuff, not to mention that that money could be spent on original movies with a whole lot more vision.

And because the reputation of the series will forever be soured in the West, by this possible turkey.

Still Weta is involved, and supposedly some high-profile directors have offered to direct. So you never know, Peter Jackson could be doing it... so you can expect, longshots of Shinji gawping (or Steve in the adaptation), and a sweeping, EPIC everything. (Because that's the general feel I get from recent Peter Jackson films)

I'm not too optimistic about evangelion being turned into a live action film.

I think it has less to do with reputation and more with death of originality, not that there has been originality in a long while (thousand years or so).

I feel sad for anyone that can't enjoy Street Fighter: the Movie. It's so hilariously inept and cheesy, and has Raul Julia bugging his eyes out in every scene. Savor the Julia, people!

Evangelion live action? Why not? A movie's a movie regardless of what it's based on or inspired by. Getting worked up about an adaptation of your favorite anime without hearing any news on it sort of reeks of fanboyism. At least wait 'til there's some actual news from the production to get pissed over. Stills, script reviews, cast announcements, anything concrete.

As it is right now (Pre-Pre-Production Development Hell), I sincerely doubt this thing will ever get to theaters. Unless it gets abandoned and picked up by another producer.

I never really cared for Evangelion (I thought it was boring as hell to watch). Plus, I can see this ending up in Mencia's Movie Reviews like this:
The Superman Movie: That's OK.
The Tim Burton Batman: That's OK.
Some guys in New Zealand want to adapt some foreign cartoon involving artificial lifeforms battling aliens: That's when they went too far.
I could go on here, but I'd bore you guys.

I love Evangelion and a live action remake sounds interesting. If it sucks, I'll forget about it. I think it's time for you guys to get past being oversensitive about nothing. I mean it's not like they're mutating members of your family with a deadly virus from some bad anime series.

Here's hoping that no big name studio gets to adapt any of Kaori Yuki's (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kaori_Yuki) stories. Keep in mind that Gainax did a movie version of Go Nagai's Cutey Honey four years ago, the Devilman movie, and the Yattaman (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yatterman) movie as well.

Doesn't look that bad to me. Of all the anime that is being turned live action, this is probably one of the ones that would be a smooth transition. I don't know why they're renaming characters though.
