I don't mind brought to life remakes, but I know it bothers some...

Anyway, thought you guys might be interested in this.

Yea I've known about this for a month or two... some of what I didn't know though...

In the ruins of the surrounding boroughs live KANEDA and TRAVIS, two young men who became good friends after being orphaned by the disaster and have since looked out for each other.

TRAVIS? Tetsuo is now fucking Travis? What the fuck?

It's too bad these carpet bagging whores have no imagination. We have to watch Akira get raped over the course of two movies, as well as Cowboy Bebop (a personal favorite) and from what I think I remember, Ghost in the Shell as well (oh and dragonball... what a great movie idea... hah... christ).

I'll bet anything this is the new movement/trend... resultant from the realization that's it's now apparent that they ran out of comic book heroes to shittily portray on the big screen so now they're going to go ahead and give Animes the same labotomized, half assed treatment.

This is how retarded it's going to sound.

This is pretty old. I remember reading about this a year ago or something...

I'm ok with comics turned into movies... But I don't really see the point in remaking a movie into another movie. Cartoon or no cartoon.

But I guess it might be interesting seeing it since it's New York instead of Tokyo this time

Ok, I think I figured it out.

I think this is my fault. I'm sorry.

The only conclusion I can come up with is that there is in fact a god and he has heard all the bad things I've said about him. He has decided he has had enough and is enacting personal vengeance on me by taking everything I love and giving it to Hollywood to rape as it sees fit.

The saddest thing about this is that even if they manage to make it somewhat watchable, which i'm fairly positive won't be the case, it's still going to be a completely and utterly redundant piece of crap. I mean come on, The original's perfect the way it is! Why?!! Who gets it in their thick head to come up with this? Dear lord, WHY?!!!

I get it! The executive producers have decided to make Akira a sequel to Taxi Driver...

I wonder when these studio's will grow a brain, and give their writers more chance to create original works, rather than violating works from other cultures. But hey I guess that's how Hollywood rolls, American television is crammed full with remakes of British shows. (the American Office, Sanford and Son (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steptoe_and_son), and Queer as Folk (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Queer_as_Folk_(UK_TV_series)) anyone?)

It's dead, Jim. (http://chud.com/articles/articles/19846/1/THE-LONELY-DEATH-OF-AKIRA/Page1.html)

And nerds the world over breath a collective sigh of relief.

while it is good news a potential hash remake of a great film has been stopped...

I would still like to see a shot for shot live action Akira film, think if done right it would as amazing the original, I mean think about how phucking cool it would look.

unfortunately we all know thats a pipe dream

Movies with a cult following should never have remakes, unless the goal is to piss off fans.

Thank goodness the project is canceled.

Akira was a good movie, but it could have used a faster pace (but not too fast).
