Right now with this one I am most concerned about where the head connects to the torso, the neck area. Any feedback you guys can give on that would be really really appreciated. I am not sure if I made the neck long enough in the sketch and if it is placed correctly. I have already painted part of the face but I am going to move onto the neck soon.

Here it is:

Bit of an update, with color. Maybe this will make the perspective and the entire image more clear.

the back of the neck perhaps, it looks a bit muddled , that could just be me. what strikes me odd is the way the lapels of the coat are very much out of position, they curve around the neck at the back in real life, the clothes are what i think are out, look up the first godfather film for ideas.

um well thats all i can say, the pose is nice also

I think the back of the neck is fine. not too sure about the front though. Maybe move the front line of the neck along the chin line further. The front of the neck looks a bit narrow to me. Defcombeta is right, the clothes look out of position. Like they're twisted sidewise. Line the tie up with his adam's apple, and the rest of the clothes also lined up in front. I like the cigarette hanging out of his mouth. Nice touch.

Thanks I havent had a chance to work on it again since the last post because of work and two other drawings, but I will definately realign the clothes.

There is something bothering me about his jaw too. A major problem, everytiime I look at the picture it stands out more and more. The entire face seems twisted because of it, but I cant quite put my finger on it. If anyone has an idea on that please let me know.

I'm not sure, but maybe making the chin a bit wider and bringing the jaw up sharper under the ear would help. Also try loosing the dark area along the bottom of the jaw, but keeping the shadow underneath. I think you're right that his face looks kind of skewed on his right side. Definitely widening the chin should do it, then running the jaw from there up under the ear. Hope this helps.

my suggestions would be to work on the part of his lips holding the cig - they need to part slightly to accomodate or it will look like hes chewing the cigarette.

also the brim of the hat at the front look stoo thin. if its curled up youll need to acentuate that with shading .'
