done in a 10 week class. First time sculpting from life. Overall not perfect but pretty happy. I had a great instructor. About a foot in height and 20 lbs of hilariious terracotta. Njoy.

looks a little disproportioned. head seems to big for his body. but he could have been a midget.

where'd you take this class. it seem like it would have been real fun

but its not the head that really bothers me. I think the length of the legs are off if anything. Though i really need to see the model again and the sculpture (its being fired right now and not by me). Another thing i am wondering is if the camera angle has distorted some things. I didnt take the pics. Thanks for the feedback.

The class was in downtown chicago at a place called the Palette and Chisel. I am taking another 5 week course with the same instructor in her own studio. Probably another after that and another and another.......

ya man it is the legs. i just noticed them too.

i don't know what your financial situation is but i can hook you up with a good bronze foundry if you ever want to make the sculpture into an edition

i think the pot-belly adds to the midgetness. and yes i agree with the legs comment.

ive heard sculpture is the best way to learn human form....im considering giving it a go.

This is really nice. I like how you added the cloth. It adds to the gesture. The legs may be a bit short but that combined with the pot-belly gives it a lot of character.

Hey uno, I go to the Pallet & Chisel Academy too. (small world) Which class was this? I haven't gotten a new catalog from them in a while. I mostly go for the open model drawing on Saturday mornings. Is the sculpture class on the third floor?
Anyway, I too am working on a sculpture, but it's no where near as good as this. Beautiful job. If you have more pictures or other pieces, please post them.

And form_n_focus, yes, by doing sculpture you realize just how much, or how little you know about anatomy and form. It has helped me a great deal.

Yes you can, use polystyreneblocks glued together to get the size youre after. Use a good knife for the rough sculpting and detailing, use rough sandpaper for smoothing. Also, work big and make sure to use protective glasses, polysterene hurts like hell when you get it in the eyes.

I havent done it in a while as it needs more floorspace then i have. With some sand and paint you can make some fairly realistic textures too and make the sculpture look like real stone or whatever youre after.

Itīs the same basics as working with clay, so itīs good practise, just like speedpainting.

Uno: I like your sculptures.

hey beer baron, this was the recent class that ended about 2 weeks ago. We had class every monday night 6:30 to about 9. The instructor was Susan Clinard (great sculptor by the way). The sculpting classes are held in the Coach house which is behind the main building.

And yes i have also learned a great deal from taking this class on how the human form stands in 3d. There is nothing like sculpting from life. Currently taking another class with the instructor and waiting for the next class at the Pallet and Chisel.

I am probably gonna bronze my little man today and maybe mount him.

Thanks to all.
