Smudges smudges everywhere!

Hello there.. I´m kind of new to drawing and I just acquired a smudgestick.. Any tips/tricks/howtos/advices or tutorials on how to use these to full effect?

advice on smudge sticks? my advice is dont use 'em. ive had better luck with my thumb. maybe it has something to do with the oil on my skin. by the way, the oil in your skin can break down the fibers in some paper. sorry, ive been no help.

I used to use some rolled-up paper towels. Same effect.
Thumb's good, too. The residual finger prints add "character" to the drawing, methinks.
