Well guys, only 13(12 for some) days until Left 4 Dead is released. I know a lot of ppl from the chat are dieing to play, so hows the forum holding up til release?

I have a few questions if anyone has been keeping up with this;

- Is there split screen multiplayer?
- can any of your ai teammates get infected in single player?

demo comes at 11th of this month i think but guys who pre-ordered the game could been downloading the demo already

I don't think there was initially, but the people who already have the demo seem to have already modded it so that there is now. I heard from somebody that Valve is considering adding it in officially.

Don't think so, but I could be wrong.

I am stoked for this game. I'll be getting the demo on the 11th, and if my computer runs it well, then I'll probably buy the full thing. Looks awesome, and I have yet to play a Valve game that I didn't like.

I concur. Valve has done it again. This game is so very many flavours of awesome. I still find the original Half-Life scarier as far as horror games go, but I think it's mostly because there's nobody to back you up.

There are two things in this game that make me go "HOLY S***!!":
1) Getting attacked by a Hunter from behind when you least expect it.
2) Those damned Witches!

if you think witches are bad? wait until you are on expert and a fucking TANK comes at you while in a tight corridor.

Its so awesome, and we've only played 10% of the campaign yet. i still find it way to easy on expert, i want hordes with HUNDREDDZD@ of zombies, yeah :D

It finished downloading just before bed. SO I might have partaken in a single player play through just for a taste. Awesome. No radar, just instinct= sweetness. Cant wait to try some multiplayer.

Someone might have answered this already, but I didn't see it when I skimmed through the responses. Is it possible to play this game single player? like no internet connection at all? Cause absolutely none of my friends play any games, so I'm completely out of luck if this is a specifically multiplayer/co op game

Plus my computers been having internet connection problems, long story short I have to use the other one in the office. So am I just s.o.l.?

Yep, single player is doable. The only difference is that all of your teammates are AI controlled.


Also, the demo just ran out. Damn. Now I have to figure out whether or not to buy it. It is an excellent game indeed, but I'm not sure if I'll get $50 worth out of it. After all, that's how much the Orange Box costs. Wonder how long it will take for the price to drop...

Buy it, Valve did it again, it's not the Orange Box but it's close.

I'm sort of a casual gamer, but I just finished up playing a campaign on advanced and it took four hours, that's unheard of for me.

agh! damnit!

Got the game today and it won't play on my computer. Every time I start it up the screen goes black. I can hear the sounds of the intro movies, I can see my mouse and I can even hear the sound the buttons on the main menu make when the mouse goes over them, but I can't see shit

Computer exceeds all hardware requirements, I've downloaded all the latest drivers, defragmented my hard drive, run system mechanic 7 to fix any errors on my computer, run CHKDSK, run the Disk Drive cleaner, scanned hard drives with McAfee, used quickclean with McAfee, manually lowered the hardware acceleration of my graphics card, lowered the resolution, and I must have looked through 50 pages on the support forums to no avail.

not a big fps player myself, but with left 4 dead
i keep coming back to play the same levels over and over,
always a difefrent experience and lot's of
... ooooohhh sh****t here comes a tank!

for single player the A.I. is pretty good and Co-op is soooo much fun!!
the controller(joystick) controls are good too
if you get tired of the mouse keyboard setup

Dead Air is by far the best campaign. The finale is so amazing, think I'll go play it now.

Ryan try verifying your game files. Right click the game and its in properties under the local files tab, I had problems with css and it fixed them.

Thanks for the interest in actually helping me, but I already tried that haha. Also tried setting the startup to autoconfig, manually lowering the resolution and pretty much every troubleshoot FAQ on the Valve website

I did a quick troubleshoot on my computer and I've managed to narrow it down to a problem with the graphics card, namely DirectDraw and Direct3D. On the normal hardware acceleration DirectDraw fails the 2nd test, and Direct3D fails every test every time. Hopefully L4D will release a patch, or maybe nVidia will release a patch that'll fix up my driver because neither reinstalling the latest drivers from the nVidia site nor reinstalling DirectX 9.0c seems to do any good

Okay, I managed to install the game on my other computer in the office so now I can play. To get it to work I had to install it on a computer that was vastly inferior to my main computer. Go figure.
