Hi all
first of all, want to say this is really a fabulous site. There ares so many nice students and teachers here.
well, i am one of you guys out there who dream about becoming an animator (possibly at Disney. Just really like the 2Ds), but i am confused about how my education path should go to accomplish this dream.
I am curretnly a fine arts major at a 4 year college (not an art school at all). So basically i get a bit of touch on everything, drawing, painting, watercolor and ceramics etc. Yet, i know u have to EXTREMELY good at life drawing and u need to know a bit about storytelling and film production to be an animator, plus you have to at least know how the body moces to draw the inbetweens instead of just chops of still pose My school definitely cannot provide me with this. So, i wonder if i need to switch to an animation and illustration program in an art school.
With the downside of 2D in the industry, it seems that illustration can give me a broader career path than animation. I also love drawing a lot. So, i think it will be suitable for me, but one thing i worry is they don't teach me the filmming stuff, do they?
well, just to consolidate, my questions are:
1.will a fine arts degree in a general 4 yr college make me professional enough to become an animator?
2. if not, what should i major in? illustration? or traditional animation?
3. What schools will u reccommend if i am to switch? I am looking for one with good teachers and students and will push me really hard.
4. I know my other possibility is to get a MFA in UCLA or sthng after i am finished with my fine arts bachelor, but i know that they will be cramping up a lot of stuff in a limited amount of time in their program and i'll be lacking all the basic skills. So, what do u think is the best options for me.
thx
