I started this after seeing the 'orc' thread in the 'Finally Finished' forums so I decided to do my own orc. I'm having problems with the lighting and where to use what colour, cool, warm. etc I still do not have much understanding about it. I guess around alot. Also I want to work on my anatomy.
I'll post updates as I go along.

well then, i like it very much, it is more orcish than the WC3 kinda orc imo, i like the colros so far, as for when and where to use warm colors it is all about the feel you want to express.. i love it as it is though, more datail maybe without overdoing it woud be grat imo.. hope it helps

I think if you pushed the reds further up behind the orc, he would stand out a bit more. Also try mixing oranges and yellows in with the reds, then follow through with some of the oranges and reds onto the edges of the orc himself for reflections. Are the hands and feet still in procress? I see you have them wiped out in this post.

finally an orc that looks like it could register a blip on the iq scale.

nice expression and pose. Im not usually one to favour symettrical poses but this seems to have worked well. If you push the reds up deepen them or youll lose the mood.

Pretty much ditto. However, where do you want the center of interest? Most likely the head, right? Currently my eyes are being pulled down to the lower part of the composition since it using two contrasting elements: value and saturation. The head, also has contrast, but it is mainly of value alone. As a result the eyes focus on the bottom half of the comp. Try switching it.

Vimmzy, thanks for the kind words, I was so glad you mention to keep it loose but I may have overdone in the final.

nikia, great advice, I have added more variation to the reds. Thanks

form_n_focus, I don't always like symmetrical poses too, this seems worth a try when I sketched out the rough. Thanks.

danielh68, I agree with you about the focus, I tried to bring the focus to the head instead by darkening the reds at the bottom. I wanted to keep it loose and painterly but I lost all that when I started refining.
