I like all the gadgets. Perhaps you could add some steam spouting out from somewhere? Also, I think the clock looks a bit funny, perspective-wise. Will you be making the pic any darker? The white background makes it look sorta calm, imo.

steams the last thing to go in, also the white is the print boarder, it is for internal magazine print so the text goes around it, cant help that. there will be a bit more shadow once i work out the third light source.

thanks for the reply infinitipo

Value, value is the key to making all this work. Dont hesitate to cover your image with just pure colors to begin with, since its digital, and futz with the lighting there before you render anyone or anything. I spent three minutes on this just to get the colors to effect everything. From here, I would go back in and render what is important and let the rest go to atmosphere. You are attempting to capture a mood, you can give em the line art separate if the client needs to see the designs as well, but most importantly is that mood establishment.

Hope this helps.

Cant wait to see what you do with your image.

you know i dig the piece. lots of potential.

just one thing throwing me off, if you'll hear: and its the actual scientist. i don't know. he just doesn't look mad enough or evil enough for me.

its just when i think of a scientist keeping brains in jars and reanimating dead things, i want him looking like jeffery dahmer or something creepy.

I like it all, except the scientists face. Wish I could be more constructive. I guess perhaps just make the face less cartoonish, while still retaining the style of the rest of the piece. It's too..."bulging"...

I know he's supposed to be mad(crazy), but still. If you make him look more realistic, and maybe give him an evil grin and light his face up from underneath with some red/yellow light, he would look really evil/mad.

Maybe his face should be directed upwards and have that open mouth evil laugh(muahahahahahaha! :evilbat: ).

Although all that would probably be very cliché...

I dunno. I like the piece overall though.

fredflickstone's overpaint was amazing! A real eye opener.

thanks for the replies

i did up shots like this but i find that the real mad men are those that have no emotion, a sort of cold but calm personality. good point all the same, i just wanted to avoid the cliche, still sometimes the old ways are best
