Only entries posted in the SUPER Stylised Challenge - October 2008 - Scarecrow - VOTING! thread before this date will be eligible for Voting!

Voting will then start immediately afterwards and will run until 15th November 2008 10:30AM GMT.

We will post to commence the Voting on the 8th November. Voting will be the same as last month, with each voter putting forward their top 3 entries, in order: 3pts for a 1st place, 2pts for 2nd, and 1pt for 3rd. This means that we will all have to choose very carefully!

Please feel free to give reasons for your selection, as it will be good feedback for everyone!

Thanks again for the great work that you have all put in. We look forward to this month's entries! Good luck, everyone!

Many thanks for all your hard work!

This picture illustrates a woman taking a scarecrow home with the intention of having sex.
I have simplified the background detail in order to make her shadow in tune, and to make the eye of the viewer focus on the scarecrow and the shadow of the woman.
I chose intentionally not to make holes in the cloth of the scarecrow for two reasons. First of all to make him more human and fashion aware, so that he would seem more attractive to a woman. Secondly to draw the scarecrow in a less traditional way.

There were a lot of compositions and concepts that were eerily similar this month...so I decided to vote for ones which were different and interesting.

1st fedezz - super stylised and something I'd stick on my wall
2nd freddydark - nice ET in the moon :)
3rd entdroid - because coloured pencils are always pretty to look at. and the cloud is cool...

Codeh!
November 8th, 2008, 09:09 PM
1st Urih_pta2- the concepts really original and i like the lighting ad style
2nd gnahz- The yellow tint of the pic gives it a almost rustic feeling but then the style is more new
3rd entdroid- i like colored pencils lol

Is anyone able to vote?

1. freddydark - liked the graveyard scene. and that is one scary scarecrow.
2. Madhatter106 - that was great! loved the humor in this and the scarecrow freaks me out!
3. Entdroid - loved the feel of the piece. And the colour pencil was awesome to look at.

Voting. It was dissapointing to see other people taking 'inspiration' from others ideas. You could see it happening within the WIP thread and so far it seems some of the original ideas are failing because of this.

So, I've decided to vote for:

1. madhatter106 - the Fitness Guru. One of the original ideas and the fact that no one else had thought of putting other vegetables in the picture.

2. fedezz - The Blue Boy. I like the 'cool' colour scheme and the sad little pumpkin.

3. gnahz - I like the light beam blinding scarecrows into submission.

3 pts - Brather: This caught my eye from the beginning. Unique pose to this cleverly conceived character, and really like the color scheme used with a whimsical style.

2 pts - Smot: Again, nice coloring and creative interpretation to the theme. I don't often think of scarecrows as exuding much warmth, but this one does.

1 pt - Madhatter: Great job on creating muscular anatomy with vegetables. Couldn't help but be impressed by the design work displayed here! A little freaked out by his eyes though, but that's just me ;)

To the rest: all very nice work. Its a shame that all can't be recognized for your talent.

1) Entroid - Simply beautiful pencil work, and I adore the patchwork top. The sock for a tounge is a great touch too. (3 Points)

2) Gnahz - Having seen your style on a few occasions now I have to say it's growing on me alot. Your stuff is always very distinctive. I like that. (2 Points)

3) MadHatter106 - For sheer originality this is quite brilliant. The idea of making the scarecrow from vegetables is very clever and the finish is exceptional. (1 Point)

To everyone : Wonderful stuff from all. I'm constantly amazed by the ability of entries here, and the twists people come up with on a theme. It really is a privilidge to be able to come here and view peoples work.

My final judgements are based purely on my personal preferences of style more than anything else. Some of the techniques you guys use are incredible Ruth2M, bstsk, brather and freddydark - I can only look in wonder at your skills. Yet there is still so much talent, humour and macabre imagination going on from JThao, Clews, Camskyo, Fedezz, Kurje, Urh pta2, Smot, Benkashmir, CharReed, Max Martelli, Dreygus, Kit1, Frostblade, Rostatron, Marcuswelbey and VirtualSurreality - that it really makes it fun to look and learn from everyone here.

Thanks.

Votes:

1st: Ruth2m Excellent color. Image looks very Nice. Hands could improve, but overall itīs the one that gave me the better impression.
2nd: Marcuswelbey. Nice execution, colorīs nice, Ideaīs repeated, but that happens a lot with such a specific theme.
3rd: Freddydark. I love his hands specially.

Here's my votes - this was a fun round.

ruth2m - 3 points. Great sense of motion and lighting.
gnahz - 2 points. The flailing crows caught in his breath are a perfect touch.
smot - 1 point. I love the idea of an elderly scarecrow feeding pigeons on a park bench.

And a couple of crits, which earn people no points, but felt I should type them out...

Though I liked the entry by fedezz, I feel it might have been too sytlized and simplistic.
I wish the entry by entdroid was in digital; though the colored pencil looks good, I think the stylization and details would have been just as vibrant and fun in pixels. (The sock for the mouth is a funny touch!)
The entry for brather goes off the mark, I think - there's very little in it that says "scarecrow," it looks too much like a reptile or alien or something.

Hi guys, sorry for the delay with posting the results - that's the downside of ending the voting on the weekends, sorry! I'll get the results over to you shortly, but just wanted to point out something beforehand, which is pretty important and affects everyone.

Basically, I'm not happy about the attempts to sway voting in this challenge. There have been several accounts created in November 2008 who have had no participation in the forums before, and who have all decided to vote in this voting thread without any previous activity. It's pretty obvious to see this from above, and there is one coincidence in that all of these accounts have voted for 'freddydark' as their number one. Now, I'm not going to disqualify freddydark on this occasion, as I cannot prove that this participator has had anything to do with these strange votes (basically because I'm not a moderator and can't look into IP addresses or anything, so I don't have any hard evidence), so I'm giving this person the benifit of the doubt on this occasion and not disqualifying them completely. However, all votes made by the following accounts have been made null and void:

nuria navarro
purpurina
anabel
sarasay
sandokanlorente
kelian

No good comes of attempts to sway the votes. I've never experienced a problem with these challenges in the past and so the voting has never been a worry to me; however I am now enforcing the following rules from the Butcher (current) challenge onwards:

New Voting Rules and Restrictions (to start with Butcher Challenge):
1. In order for your vote to be valid, your post count must be 50 or above AND you must have been registered on the ConceptArt.org forums for at least 6 months. The ONLY exception to this rule is if you have contributed an entry yourself to the challenge.
2. If you want to vote but are not a contributor of the challenge, you need to have been registered on the Threedy Forums for at least the last six months, AS WELL AS have 50 posts already to your name.
3. It goes without saying that all voters MUST look through each of the entries before posting their score.
4. Finally, don't vote for yourself ot get your friends to vote for you in an attempt to influence votes, it's not an attractive quality.

I'm sorry to have to enforce these strict voting rules for future challenges, but unfortunately it seems that this is going to have to happen to keep things fair - which benefits everyone at the end of the day so I hope you'll all understand these necessary rule updates for future challenges.

One last note: I'm afraid I can't accept blackcherry's vote because it was posted after deadline (but it was my fault for not announcing the end of voting so I do apologise for the confusion there - sorry!)

Back soon with results. :)

ruth2m and bstsk pieces look so alike considering composition, style, perspective and elements inside the scene that it just makes me hate being the one stating the obvious.
