"IN THE LEFT CORNER, WEIGHING IN AT......."
Wondering what the hell this is all about??? Well basically jelanen and i are both starting out at trying to improve our skills, and thought it would be cool to link up and be "learning buddys" and bounce work off and help each other.
We welcome all onlookers to C&C and offer any advice along the way.

*takes a smackdown from the boxing Kangaroo* Owwie. *g* Thanks for the reference picture. I'll get to drawing and I'll post something tomorrow. I love your kangaroo pictures. Like the way you did the shading on the second one... very neat.

second one just done with a crappy HB pencil and smudged/highlighted with an eraser.
Look after that wrist mate. Maybe i should have a go left handed to make it fair.
Tried painting the boxing one in photoshop, but it looked kinda crap, maybe i should post it anyway. I'm more used to solid colours.
Anyway will try to do some more kangas today.

Done left handed. Spent entirely too long on it (I think about an hour. :/) Used a B4 pencil. Ready for next topic whenever you are ready. I doubt I'll have time to do more roos since I need to do a master copy left handed and some perception project.

Damn that's good for left handed considering your not!
Just a couple of pointers, i fall into the same trap sometimes, try not to enclose parts with outlines. Try to us the different area tones to make parts stand out.
eg....around the hind leg, the main body is darker, so use highlights on the leg to define it......does this make sense.
I still can't believe you did that with your wrong hand!
Here's the crappy colour job, well its kindof ok, i just can't be bothered playing with it anymore.

Did this in arond 10-15 mins, purple paper and 2 coloured pencils. Just looking at shadows and highlights.....just trying to get back into the swing of drawing.......if only i had some spare time *sigh*
Well at least i'm drawing huh!
Hmm....topic.....????

Drawing is good. And yeah, the outlining bit happened simply because if one examines the kanga really closely, the shadows from the muscles make somesort of outline. Honestly, I have little control with a pencil left handed to portray the outlines without outlining it. *g* I know that is a no-no, but all rules are meant to be broken. ;)
Not bad with the coloring job, my critic is that gradient doesn't replace shading. *g* I like the circle thing on the gloves. Spiffy color pencil kangaroo, i like how the purple paper just works with it. Yay for drawing!
And yes, your turn for topic, since I picked the boxing kanga. ;p
Keep on drawing, pick a topic and draw more. :p

Both of these were my quick portraits. I didn't have a stop watch or anything, so I went as fast as I could and stop at what I thought was five minutes. Done with india ink on drawing paper, which was perhaps a mistake on my part but I don't have watercolor paper. Umm.. was using this cool japanese inking brush for the first time on 18x24 pad. The first one had the ink running alot due to... not a lot of control on my part. Second one didn't turn out half bad. Oh, paper was too big to scan so I just took a digital picture of both.

I did two tonight. I like the second one I did... somewhat dark. Spent about 30mins on the first one and an hour on the second. I'll do a more indepth self-portrait later out of pencil after I get some sleep. *g*

I have issues making 3d stuff 2d... shows perhaps by my varying outcomes of my self portrait. :/

This picture is my long study one. I did it while looking at the mirror in the bathroom. *g* It sucked bending over the sink... ;) It is 18x24, so took a digital picture of it since it was too big to scan. Pencil on Bristol board.

I really like your drawing of the lemon. Self portraits are the easiest way to life draw people when you don't have a model. Keep practising!
