I'll be dumping my school projects, personal projects, and products of conceptart.org activities here. My goal is to become proficient in concept art and 3d modeling/rigging.

These thumbnails were done in PS.

These thumbnails show some great mood and design creativity. I kind of want to see them developed into concepts/illustrations, although I am sure you have plenty of projects.

Glad you made a sketchbook, now the pressure is on to do those daily studies!

Sweet submission Don! You definitely got some intense contrast going as per the assignment.
My only crits are that the composition is really central, even so, there's enough going on with other points of interest that I don't think it's super static.
Also, the green lines of light suggesting highways that are farther away are the same line weight as the foreground which hurts the illusion of depth.

Nice backlighting on the structures nearest us and the clouds of smog. Overall, really successful, keep it up man!

thank you CrazyHarij! yeah, I chose it for the Swedish phrase 'me too'. I thought you were asking If I were Swedish myself.

I haven't had the time to do any daily sketches recently, because I needed 10 thumbnails due for digpaint class today for an animation background:

Hey man, some real cool things you got here! I am liking a lot of it, but I would advice you not to be so focused on producing impressive things, and do more studies instead, as they can be quite impressive in their own right:) Also, you should stay of the custom brushes until you master the simple round one. This will challenge you to think in other ways when it comes to textures and what not, so yeah..

Anyways, keep posting, keep getting better:D

wow, thanks Mischievouslittleelf. I agree, I will be doing more studies with less focus on impressive comps like the previous sketch. I did that at 2 am too, so I shant be held responsible! ;D About the brushes: yeah, I will try to lay off the customs and textures in my studies, I'm sure it will help.

I am quite enjoying your latest works, Don. Those thumbs for the animation bg look well considered and show experimentation with some interesting compositions and perspective situations.

The effect of using high scattering with those painter brushes is powerful but might be overused at times.

See you in modeling!

thanks Dan! it was a neat experience doing all those thumbs in 3 hours, allowing me to be even more messy than I naturally am. gave me a little more confidence. I did them in photoshop though, so I kinda cheated. yeah, you can get addicted to using certain custom brushes but hopefully I will try to get more comfortable with the round brush like the mother study. Im real interested in panoramic perspective now seen in photos, and even basic one point. maybe Ill order that perspective vid on massive black.

danke mariusz! Those are my favorite too. I want to get that carl dobsky perspective dvd so I can practice and play with various vanishing points and hopefully get my head around it.

I couldn't sleep tonight for some weird reason so I got up after going to bed early and decided to work on my unfinished hand. It was supposed to be for my first 3d modeling/rendering class but we never got to finish it because a new teacher came in and was teaching us differently (albeit better). It wasn't due as our final but I really felt like I needed to finish it. Then after making a base mesh, for fun, I took it into zbrush and detailed it so-so:

I like the palette used in these creature concepts, and your monsters in general are really compelling. Keep up the studies, man.

How are ACC classes going? I did decide to transfer - it's a laborious starting over but my hope is that it will be worth it in the long run.

so far so good, as far as 3d goes. It helps me understand a lot of concepts and theories that will help in my art and of course help me in getting a job in the industry. Im studying the principles and elements of art more on my own though, with more books and dvds, trying to get into color and composition right now. theres so much to learn and remember but its a fun process. yeah, I wish I could go to Gemini but two things stand in the way: funds and time (I still hope to leave texas and get a job up in seattle area before 4 years from now). But I'm glad you're going, it looks like a great school! I'm sure it will pay off in the end. :) And if I ever need any advice that I can't get from materials, I can always hit you up on here. I love this community, even if its hard to get your stuff out there, its nice to have so many resources and helpful members.
