Actually, I think it's good. Athough I don't know much about this type of art. I like the details, especially in the weapons.

study anatomy just a wee bit more.

his right arm is a little wierd and its hard to tell thats a bicep if taken out of context.

and with all due respect it is the most homo-erotic mercenary i have ever seen.

My Crit:

Define your own style for anatomy. Study it all the time so you can draw without reference. The thing that makes this piece look amature (which is fine, you are still practicing) is the way you draw your lines. Your character is very Flat and shows no depth. Direct some light on him and try to imgine how the shadows would form on him. Your colors are way too (as my old art teacher would say) WONDERBREAD. By this I mean they are too generic and saturated. There are millions of colors to choose from, why the most obvious or saturated??? Oh, and you better learn how to master hands and feet, these will be the toughest parts to learn. But once you do, you will not be restricted in hiding them in your compositions. The hands are also the most expressive parts of our bodies besides the face., you can't afford to hide them!

It looks like you studied too much Anime, but never took the time to understand anatomy. Remmember, Anime is just ONE type of art style. You don't have to try to copy or emulate it. I personaly don't understand the cult behind this art form, ...i think people should follow their won styles and rythms in art. Who knows, maybe you will start a new trend? but only after you learn the basics first!

Well, you wanted a crit from a proffesional, hope I helped. Keep practicing, and drawing!

maybe it looks like that, i dont see it, but i dont like anime at, to be honoust i hate it, but hey if you say so, on the anatomy paart, youre right, but i didnt try to hide the hands, but then again it czn look like this, and again, with the colors your right, (again again again) i did use some colors that would be easy to use, coz im practising on my painting skill.

I'll include a original sketch later so that you can see, this thing aint an anime inspired thingie, thx alot for the crits, this i can use :D

Valuable nuggets of information otis, thanks for sharing.
Sjoerd, it is not bad, but it does have some mistakes that are keeping the picture from beeing all that it can be :) . Among the most obvious things is his right hand beeing longer than his left (imho) :). Then again, that's just me and I'm an art bum.
I like the BW version quite a bit more then the coloured one :). Kudos.

2 things. The first thing I thought was "homo-erotic". The small right leg and the turned face, to me, scream "I am gay!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Also, I am guessing by your name that you are from a European country? The lack of comments might be due to style differences.

People in one country may not understand the style of people in another country.

In a way, the picture reminds me of a Disney character.

To be honest, i'm a huge fan of anime (The idea a an all inclusive "anime style" is like calling everything painted "painting style".) I don't really see alot of it here. It reminds me alot more of the illustrations that Metzen did for Warcraft 2. Both the strengths and weeknesses are very similar. Maybe by looking into Metzen you could see how he resolved those same sort of isues.
