It has been quite a long time since I was here last. In all honesty, it makes me feel nostalgic even though it has not been that long.
I joined CA through a friend of mine at college where I studied Art, and we started uploading our work. Even though he was much better at it than I was, we still were great friends.
That is, until I stopped.
This happened during my second year of college: A death of a family member, and the chaos that ensued. Among the heartache of loss, there was a matter to deal with the ownership of the land that the person owned, a land that which my family and I have lived on for quite a long time. The problem was, there was no official Will, so everything (including the land) was essentially up for grabs.
After a drawn-out fight between our family and the brother-in law's family, we finally had our land back, but it was not the same.
I went into a deep depression. I never talked to anyone, nor did I want to.
My grades slipped, so did the grants that funded my stay.
I withdrew, hoping to return after I have gotten myself together.
Things have gotten better since then. I have a full-time job that helps cover the loans from college, still dreaming of returning to finish what I had started.
I still draw, just not as well as I once did.
I guess I am starting over from square one again. Feels strange, yet familiar to be here again.
Also, to my friend:
If you are still here, forgive me.

Well hey there,
as it seems I'm the first to post here, I'd say welcome to CA mate :)
Already updated - you cought me in the middle of it ^^ thanks for the comment btw :)
Seen your drawings btw, and I only got a few comments, try not to draw a lot of manga-stuff as it is not THAT accurate imho. Anyway, seeing your other drawings are not that bad I'd recommend to buy a couple o' books involving perspective and sketching humans. It'll pay off in time, trust me :)
As for the rest, keep it up and gl on your drawing-classes there ^^

Well its good to see you have finally got your sketchbook going! Congratulations! The woman studying is my favorite sketch in here, and definitely follow Master Chill's advice about avoiding the manga stuff. Focus on the stuff from drawing class, anatomy and such and you will see lots of improvement. See you in class later!

hey, that flower pot is very nice, I like the suggestion of the environment around it. That really adds a sense of place.
As for anatomy and drawing books, you can find books by Andrew Loomis, which are free online. They have some very helpful information in them, give them a run through every once in a while to brush up. The books can be found here in PDF format

Also, I have really been liking Bridgman for anatomy. His books are not very expensive at all and present a different method for observing the figure than I was used to. Just something to consider
Keep it up!

hey man. welcome to CA. good start. i think the best thing for you would be to start doing solid anatomy studies, and daily practices. learn to break down the figure into basic shapes so you can get there proportions down solid before moving onto the details. doing straight copies from some of the old masters is always a good place to start. good luck man, and keep em coming!

Wow, took me long enough to post!
Anyways, here's an update on my anatomical studies.
I know its only one pic, but the ones I wanted to post got handed in to my professor.
A little heavy lines on top, but the form is nice, imo.

@Bigtayter
Yeah, I am a bit nervous about drawing hands (and feet) because I need more practice on them. =/

i feel your pain...im pretty hesitant to draw hands and feet. My biggest problem is actually drawing arms.To me,its so hard to draw arms in dynamic action...or in any motion at all.
