I imagined an old Japanese fisherman (who lives in a fantasy world) heading home after a long day....this is how it turned out. Please let me know what you think...as I am trying hard to improve. (I've never tried anything quite like this before)

Holy crap, that is so very neat. What did you use to sculpt it? I always see that weird material people use for sculpting but never know what it is.

Absolutely wonderful. Bake it quick before something happens to it!

I'm at a loss for words. I have a hard time believing a machine could do something like this, let alone a human. Complete and total respect.

If I were to venture a guess, I would say that it is made out of a polymer clay - like Sculpey.
This is a really neat piece of work.

Supah-kul! I'd like to see the bamboo poles made thinner, tho- they throw things off for me. Don't be afraid to throw in mixed media, like brass and wire, lead foil for the flag, etc. But that's just my opinion. It's a great concept, AND a great sculpt!

Wow! You've really improved over the last six months man. It's nice to see you tackle different concepts. One thing that I think is missing, is the sense of movement. You have it, but I think if the spider was maybe climbing over some rocks or something to show us that it has to travel over a certain distance in order to take the fisherman home. We would get the sense of movement and it's not that we dont, but I think the idea could be pushed some more.
Great concept overall man, just keep going and keep posting.
Great Progress:thumbsup:

WHOA!! So many replies! I better get started here.....
Thanks to all!! I appreciate it very much when people let me know what they think. Who knows, maybe it will end up being a kit one day. It is indeed made from Super Sculpey, and an armature I built out of Copper wire and aluminum foil. I agree about the bamboo pole idea to a degree, but for this sculpt...I wanted the appearance of BIG in comparison to the small man. Also...the appearance of movement idea...I see what you mean....I really pushed myself to grow on this sculpt, and my next one will hopefully be even better. All crits, props, and ideas will definitely help me in the future to improve and try other methods. I'm definitely growing and learning, and having a BLAST doing it. Thanks again to all who have responded. :chug:

damn Scotty, thats way cool!
youve come a long way. the concept is great.
i hate to be a thorn, but the clothing on the resting figure looks odd. mostly its the folds and wrinkles, looks too unatural. but the spider is amazing. it must have taken forever to sculpt all the hair/fur on it. on the fishing rod, maybe? you could use string instead of sculpey.?? just a thought.
good work
:D

wow! this is awesome down to the last detail. i wish there's more movement on the little lantern. hehe, the small man idea is super cool, but then the fish doesn't seem to make sense. hmm, it's just me being paranoid. good job.

battlemonkey- Thanks!! Actually...the for the size of this sculpt...the figure's clothing was pretty much as far as I wanted to take it. The wooden base is only 8 inches by 6 inches (just to help people understand the scale of the sculpt) I agree about the fishing line, but I wanted to use ALL sculpey on this one. I was thinking beige sewing thread myself, but, went with sculpey just to keep with my intentions. (It would take nothing for me to remove the clay, and add thread) Your crits are warranted however, and I thank you for them. Maybe on my next one I will use existing props. :) (ie....thread, real sticks, and such) We will see. By the way...I wanna see some new sculpts from YOU man...what you been up to? :chug:
mushuhaha- Thanks!! Hahaha....I dunno....I've caught some pretty darn big fish in my day. In fact...if you fish around where I live at the right time...you can easily catch 10 Salmon in a day. We will see where I go from here. People seem to really dig my creature sculpts, and I plan to push myself even more on my next one.
nev- Thanks for saying so! Glad you like it.
Forge- Thanks! Actually..."I" won't paint it, BUT the man that painted all of GABE PERNA's works (one of my favorite sculptors) offered to paint it for free because he likes this new sculpt so much. (Which is awesome since he's gotta be one of the best sculpture painters I have ever had the pleasure of meeting online) I'm flattered, but also humbled.
