This is one of your better color pieces, pstraub, though i love your b/w works, because you are better in b/w in my eyes...

My only crit is the parts where the water hits the shells...it seems as if there are too many strokes, it doesn't look like water splashing against cliffs, actually you can't spot what's going on there (if not looking at the whole scenery)...

liquidwerx: thanks

fozzy: glad you lik this. As far as the waves....I am curious what size monitor are you looking at this on? They are a bit suggested but on my 21 inch they pull together well. On other forums the waves have been mentioned as a fav. of the piece. Still good point..improvements can always be made.
As far as my b/w or color work...some people like my color work, some my b/w. I am curious though, have you been to my website? There are quite a few color pieces there I haven't posted here.
As always good crits...thank you

Wow! I visited your site and hey, there are works i've never seen, though they are made years ago...:clapping:

Great work! Slowly i start to like your colored pieces as much as your bw...:)

btw as tegehel said, you must have some great patience...how long did this image take you? Or your images in general?

Can you post a sketch of one of your works? Your images look like painted very accurately...i am curious how a sketch of someone who is working that way would look like...

;) Fozzy: thank you for taking the time to look at my work...and yeh I've been in the game for awhile...lots of work from different jobs. glad you like them.

As far as process: I am working on a tutorial book with a few other well known digital artists. The book will show a number of my techniques and processes. I will absolutely post some stuff up here when I can.

Thanks again for taking the time, your crits are always great.

Best

Very, very beautiful. It's a wonderful image. It gives me a warm feeling when I look at it, like I can feel the suns rays beaming through my monitor. Very Whelan-esque.

Gloklund: Glad you got that warm feeling from the piece...I really tried to play the compliments against each other to give the image a "glow"....so your comment is greatly appreciated.
I can't shake that Whelan influence...oh welll....he is amazing.

my first words were "whoa.. hey.. umm whooa"

then i made it my background til i see another aj sp that i like..

personally the colors a lil too fantasy-ish for my tastes.. but i just dont like the whole fantasy realm that much.. im more for the peculiarly realistic.. theres a good sense of mood and an overall sense of some underlying microcosm/story. great piece.. hope to see more work

and to any1 who cares. i dont post a crapload. only in spurts.. but its my 17th bday on the 17th so kickin!.. :) piece kids. - ry

That kind of patience is something we all need to develop if we want to survive in the art industry. That kind of patience is required, if not in one painting then in the course of a project. I was just reading some stuff about the concept art of Finding Nemo and one of the artists on that film did over 300 color concept drawings during pre-production. Talk about patience... that's 300 times that this guy finished a drawing and then pulled out another blank piece of paper and started again, using basically the same characters and environments.

not necessarily my cup of tea ( subject wise) but I can appreciate the craftsmanship and the colors, I really must agree with everyone else and say that your attention to detail and patience(sp?) are admirable. hehe, actually if i had alittle more patience I wouldn't be posting right now, I would be finishing a drawing for my perspective class(usefull class but reaallllly tedious). *steals some patience to finish hw*

nice stuff though, I must ask, is this book you are working on a story? or just a bunch of your art? the public needs to know!

You are a madman! What's the book you're working on?

Thanks again for the comments.

Ahh yes...patience...the only reason I have it....is beacuse I see the images in my head and I have to get them out or my mind becomes too cluttered and I feel like I have a weight on my shoulders that doesn't get lighter until the piece is finished. I'm seeking counseling...just kidding...anyways...

As far as the books...one book is a tutorial book on digital painting..I'm working on it with a few other prominent digital artists. Press releases should begin shortly...you know the publishing business..
The second book is a sorta children's YA book....I wrote it a couple years back and have been trying to finsih the images in my free time.

Best,

Phil

I really wish I could visit this place and walk around. This space you created is a wonderful concept . Never seen anything like this before, thats why I can't stop looking at the image! Also, seems like a nice place for a vacation.
