Hmmm im thinking of improving my brushstrokes, compositions, color choices by doing master studies..:steph:
Firstly, i have no foundation on painting..i never took art class until this year when i entered an animation school (Gets to draw in pencil and charcoal only:ore: )
Secondly, since i have no idea if im doing my painting correctly hence ill post regularly even if its in incomplete state. ( Looking for critics and hopefully advices to correct me! :yum: )
Okay so my first studies will be Sargent's Lady Agnew :)

Ill stop til here today since its late and i haven't done my daily potrait :)
Correct me if im wrong..
My mindset on this is to do the base color first (blue) and then gaze it with warm grey, gazing one more time with red...
Oh and im using grey to create a silhoutte of the figure(Is this the so called negative spaces?)..Im using non opaque brush so that blues can be show through when i paint the dress..(thats called the underpainting right? :D I read quite abit on the underpainting thread to understand >_>)
Hopefully my mindset is correct, tell me if its wrong :D

Nice choice
This is my favorite Sargent Painting. So don't fuck it up right. ;)
Spend the extra time on her brow, eyes, and lips, because that's why she's so hauntingly beautiful and expressive in this painting. Here are some more refs to work from if you like. Perhaps someone else here has a larger/cleaner scan to look at, since I know everyone loves Lady A. :)
This first one is inverted, just so you can see what a total badass Sargent really was. Talk about holding up to the mirror challenge...

Jasonwclark> Heya thanks, Ur giving me some huge pressure here xD I hope i will not fuck the painting up >_> Thanks for the bunch of ref, and yeah sargent is a badasss xD When painting Lady Agnew, its freaking scary..since i paint at night and then when i look at her facee...oh god.. what a genius Sargent is :steph:
Nebil> Nope, im quite new to these masters painterss but i will def. look out for them xD
Today...(I know im so slow) >_>..Its really hard to paint fast while looking at the colours of the painting as well as the brushstrokes..but i guess it will pay off if u do it slowly :)
My routine here..
1. Block in the colours using non opaqued brushes so that i can let the paint underneath show through..
2. Paint more opaque after these steps..
I have a question and since i have no knowledge in painting, ill ask here :D
Do you guys paint the background --> midground then foreground?
Or do you guys block in colours for the whole image before detailing on background --> midgorund then foreground? Thanks!
