help required about use of angle grinders.

i am a product design student from india. for my college project i am working on modifying angle grinders for sculptors. can some sculptors help me by telling me what model of angle grinder do you use and what are the problems faced while using it. suggest modifications if possible.

hey,
actually what my basic thought process was before taking up this project was that angle grinders are basically designed for industrial purposes but it is used by sculptures a lot but its not flexible enough for them to operate. most of them prefer to work without the guard and handle(which can be quite dangerous). also they have to use it above eye level a lot. these were some of the problems that i had identified. i wanted to find out more problems...so that it can help me in conceptualizing and making the product better.

I use angle grinders for wood carving. I use the "lancet" chainsaw wheel to block out the forms, hell of a lot easier than just chisels and regular chainsaws . . . more control. The brand I use is Dewalt but I can't recall at this time which model name, off the top of my head.

I've also used 'em on steel but usually for more clean up on welds, I like the heavier ones for this matter.

For the most part all angle grinders that I have ever used have had that same basic design. The smaller ones are good but not small enough to do some of the detail work. I always end up having to switch over to a dremmel tool or the air powered tools but those are still a bit to small.

Maybe think of a design that is an inbetween size of a dremmel and a meduim sized angle grinder.

Actually if I could find an angle grinder "front end" (obviously a scaled down front end to fit the tool) on something the size of a dremmel tool that would be pretty sweet. It would give the right angle to work with but also manuverability, especially on complex forms.
