I actually did imagine myself as a helicopter quite often as a kid. It was fun and the topic reminded me of that. Sorry it's not a vehicle. :P

older sketch, I might work up another one later today.
This guy's poncho spins around his neck and allows him to fly while he drops exploding tamales on unsuspecting victim below.

15 mins at work:

the principle of course is, that you attach the engine to your nipples (i guess you have to be nude or wear a cut-out shirt or something), start her up and off you go. wohey.

all the best.

here's another... kind of a flying rice rocket. I didn't draw it landing... The two rotors rotates so the body is vertical and the "tail" spits into a tri-pod configuration, and the chest support swings down to allow the rider to exit and enter.

hito - innovative concept.

sog_1 - cool rendering, all marker? You got some nice technical skills.

November 14th, 2003, 03:23 PM
i thought hito's idea with the fan thingie was cool, so i used that kind of propulsion for this thing as well. vertical takeoff, then jet engine to provide higher speeds. intertia keeps you fixed in your flight chair once you go from horisontal to vertical position as you are in this sketch.

[edit] : please ignore the fact that steering would be impossible in this craft. (hey, i'm not an industrial designer =)

sog_1: i agree with danielh. you got some really really nice renderings. *sigh*

The idea for the quad rotor came from a remote controlled toy helicopter called the "DraganFly." I can't claim originality on this one, but I thought the design was excellent and it appeared quite stable, so I thought there need to be a human sized version, which is what I present to you now.

Beatnik :Supremely unique design there. I'd rather fly that to work than the nipple copter; less chance of having your nipple ripped out and then falling to your death thereafter. Though you wouldn’t get quite the shock value with the bee suit.

MeanChum : I like your character; I have a liking for steampunk and arcane technology designs. Also I like his pronounced facial features.

brianl : The light and shadow on your piece is just excellent. Perhaps if you darkened the background a bit and added some searchlights and such shining from below, it would emphasize the light source from below. In any case, the chopper style handles were a great choice.

Great work everyone in fact; sorry I don't have time to get in depth with all of yours.

Cool, some interesting concepts today. ...I know, I've been slacking - missed a couple of DSGs, but I got mine today, just pencil though.

This little heli can transform so the soldiers can still be mobile with the machine, it also has a knife/rifle gun for an arm in walking mode.

Okay, I'm fighting a kidney stone right now, so this is sort of half-assed. Didn't really think a lot of it through, but was good to do just the same. the thumbnails are keepers.

vfxart - are you joking? It's almost lke saying an intruder shot me six times but I managed to crawl to the computer and submit a half-assed piece (which in reality is one of the nicer pieces submited.) Hmmm. Well, I think your work is far from half-assed, it's very good. Hope you feel better.

Thank you...
I suppose when I say half-assed what I mean is that this isn't much more than a colored thumbnail, and the coloring and semi-slick handling might be covering up some bad ideas. There's a phrase at ILM-- guilding a turd. No matter how slick a finish you put on soemthing, well, you get the idea...?

I saw something in my head, jotted out a few versions and chose one and jumped into Photoshop, you know, the usual process I think. But with the morphine and drowsiness and general stress, I think I just kind of let it go. Thank you for your words though. I'll try to be more careful about how I present things. I know better, just still stressed I think.

Take care all...

vfxart - guilding a turd! Hilarious. I still think it's a cool submission. Hope you continue to post your work here.

DV8 - Great little concepts! It's refreshing to see some of the sketchy stuff on the board. 21 for 21 one? Wow, that must be somekind of record.

William b. Hand - sweet rendering, the aqua highlights really pop it out.

Great work everyone.

Thanks Danielh68, glad you liked them. As far as them being sketchy, it is called the daily SKETCH group after all ;)
yep 21 for 21... I am pretty proud of myself! that would be cool if it was some kinda record! But alas, i may be late in posting the next few dsgs... I had a death in the family and I am flying back home to Canada tomorrow for a few days. I will do them, I just may not be able to post them until I get back here.

thanks again

Mike
