Final Poll: P.O.W.! 14: Editorial Art

This was an experiment, and the involvement was a bit better than we've had lately. I'd like to thank those of you who came through with entries.

The assignment was to do a minimum of five "cartoons" suitable for use as Editorial Art, and one person entered six, so thank you for that, Sudsy...and a special thank you to Arttorney, who has very rarely let me down on entries in these challenges. Vote for one set of entries as a unit.

I voted for Ilaekae, I understood 4 out of 5 jokes (English is not my first language, and Arttorney's cartoons may have been too specific about things I don't really know.) I also liked Sudsy's 2nd one with the baby, some of the others could use some finetuning maybe, but cartoons are hard, so, good work guys!

Out of curiosity, Night Vision, which one didn't you get?

Hi Ilaekae, it was the first one, maybe I should've looked up the words 'compound' and 'gelding' though, heh. But if you feel like explaining me, please do!
The second was pretty hard too, untill I remembered there's an expression 'having your head up your *rse'. (Now I do hope I got that right).

I guessed it was one of those two... :)

The first one is referring to religious cults in the US that are basically a bunch of pedophiles and dirty old men using religion as an excuse to have sex with underage girls. Most of these groups live in very primitive conditions to some degree (old-fashioned) on large tracts of land with a fortified perimeter, called a Compound. Kind of like a military base, or a centralized "tribal" community. A number of government hearings were held on these cults, and this is my interpretation of one witness answering. "Gelding" is what turns a boy horse into a non-boy horse, if you know what I mean. (She's a professional castrator, which would terrify any old goat that came near her... :P)

You hit the second one right. US slang--"He's got his head up his ass." generally means he's clueless or so stupid he doesn't know what's going on. It's a requirement if you want to be elected to political office in the US... :P

Excellent explanation, sir! See, I should have looked it up and then I would have understood. It just shows how much the level of understanding on the receiving end determines how good the joke will be, I guess.
