Thanx to davi - our sound machine, who came up again with a very cool sound...really don't ask me or even try to imagine how and when he made this sounds while recording...

ADDITIONAL INFO

1. This is a special round. There is no written topic. Listen to the sound file to hear what noises the creature makes and come up with a nice creature design and concept based on the sounds.

2. No individual/character!!! Make a concept of a species!

:?::?::?:Click here to listen to the CREATURE SOUND (http://www.conceptart.org/forums/activities/cow_126_creaturesound.mp3) :?::?::?:

Enjoy!

Oh yay! I loved the last sound round. This is such a great idea. I'm glad you brought it back. Maybe it could become a semi-regular thing? I think it produces nice work from folks.

Forget the sound file name :) Hell would be easy, boring and not creative, it would actually make you look like a complete loser as an artsit (ok, that should be enough to get rid of all these hell concepts now :perv:)

Okay, I came up with my rough for this critter. The idea behind mine is that its horns are connected through its nasal cavities. It makes the noise through its horns (and also smells through them). :)

Tommoy
October 2nd, 2008, 05:19 AM
I guess its big. It jumps and lands on its belly, thats what makes the drumsound. The rasping sound comes from the notched tentacles although its a smaller sound. I also think it lives near or in water, thats why it has a shell.

I realize a lot of people are using the quadruped. But hey, with a sound like that, how can you NOT think giant quadruped. This was just a quick sketch I'll keep working on.

The Greater Quarry Behemoth is a large omnivore that lives in somewhat rocky terrain for most of its life. As it grows, it leeches minerals from the soil to create a hardened carapace on its back. Its symbiotes are an infinitely smaller Liars Spiders which forage for dead or living material to bring back to their main source of transportation and protection. They can often be heard chirping amongst the larger vocalizations of the Quarry Behemoth, which can be heard for miles in any direction. The GQB has a set of spiracle-like holes on the top sides of its body in which it breathes and vocalizes.

nirudafat: I think yours is going very well! It looks like you know how to paint; so to polish it just make a new layer and keep working it until you reach the level of finish your going for. can't wait to see the finish.

Verehin (http://www.conceptart.org/forums/member.php?u=95385) : Looks great! maybe for a crit I'll ask some questions about your creature that you may want to consider.
1)What is the function of it's long legs? and what are the mechanics and structure of the legs, and feet?

2)Does it eat things that are up high or down low?

3)What is the function of it's tail? If for balance and stability is it balanced?

Ok hope that helps a little, If anyone has a chance I'd like some crits on mine.

Thanks

I also thought of Cloverfield monster... my problem with this is that it is almost too ChOW. All things I can imagine making that sound will be disqualified as characters rather than creatures.

My First C.O.W. with THE SOUND

"HORNED CROWNED KING CROG"

They're making sound with a hollow horn on his head which connect to it nostral system. The skin is makin from a celluloid peptine like a bark of tree so it's always look like it got a armor of tree. on their joint there're a thick muscle so that 're no their weak point.

The Ancient Aboriginist always use their horn skull on a myhtical ceremony, it's the symbol of the conquerer... symbol of "THE KING"

nirudafat,
your work is ..., flat perhaps?? I dunno, i know u do all the highlighs n shadow an all but i think the "shall " parts doesnot show the shape much, its like individual rock stick around ... i donnu how to say it, sorry...

bakubaku,
i got a creature design with 10 legs, 4 smaller on the head, and 6 "usual" on the body, guess idead soes has it coincident, but i think u lack a little in confident??, perhaps ur just humble, but always aim high. by the way, the lower one looks more lifely. :P

hey all, freaking awesome stuff going on in here so i wanted to participate and have fun too,

listening to the sound file it was like a heavy creature, so I did an elephant/ pig/ bull type creature used for transport and cavalry charges,,, ahhh I think I might have to do another one, i have something else in my mind, a much bigger and more aggressive creature :)

is it ok if i change my mind and choose a different creature as my final?

I am thinking of another concept - it's a guardian of another realm. It stands in the way, but doesn't prevent to pass. It does frightfull sounds with mouth and stomping with his huge front legs on the ground. Only those who are not affraid can pass.

I don't think you drew this, and I know for a fact that this is not a new drawing. I saw that creature many years ago at Elfwood, and I remember the artist who drew it having better figure and pencil rendering skills than what I see in your sketchbook. The only change you've made is to erase the well-drawn female figure that was on the left and add the ellipse guy.
Most of us on conceptart.org have been browsing art online for quite a while. Even if you use old artwork from a site that many here probably aren't familiar with, there's a good chance someone will recognize it and you'll get caught. Well, I recognize this, and you're caught.
If I'm incorrect in my accusation that you didn't draw this, I am very sorry. It's been many years since I browsed the Elfwood gallery that held this image, and my memory is not perfect. However, I don't think I am incorrect, and I know that this work is much too old to be valid for this activity.

Ooooo, I like the sound. It's making all kinds of neefty pictures in my head. I just hope I can make something remotely like what my inner eye is seeing.

Also looks like we've got a lot of neat creatures forming up. I'm particularly taken with Edujante's stylistic piece, as well as the creatures of Realitychek, Verehin, Lander, Tommoy, Kinonato, and AhChu.

Anyway, here's the rough sketch for mine. I'm in the process of inking/painting over my sketch. I'm pretty certain the ram's style horns won't stay. They aren't fully getting across my mental picture. (This is my first time trying out COW, so hopefully I'll be able to finish something that is up to the quality of the COW mods.) :)

I immediately thought big when hearing the sound as well, but decided to take it in a different direction. Although this guy is probably the size of a large dog or something.
The way my fella works is to suck air into the big sack under his neck, which is the groaning or mooing type sound. The sack feeds the tubes on his back which he can stuff things in, and thus launch whatever he has stuffed in there. In this case, the bugs that kind of look like purple potatoe bugs with fiery insides, we'll call em cinder bugs. So the thudding sound is coming from the launching process, you know, built up air that is releasing. And the squeels in the background of the audio track could be the squeel of the cinder bug as it's flying through the air toward the Bullistic Frogs' target.

Anyways, hope you guys like. I still have some time tomorrow for changes if you have some good suggestions.

Hey guys I had to hurry up and post this for my final, before I over worked it and completely destroyed it, as is I tweaked the foot...and the leg so it didn't look so much like mud dribbling down.

Hopefully my next one will be better

Paul Kang -

Cheers Matey :)

Nirudafat -

Thanks man, yea the leg was really bothering me, but as I was working on it ya start to see more areas that you go...."hmmm might tweak that a bit" got out of control really quickly :P so went back a few stages and quickly posted it be I could do any more damage.

Keep hammering away with ya rendering, you will be suprised by the cool happy accidents that happen along the way. It took me 12hrs and plenty of frustration and fun before I got something that I think looks promising.

Pixel Fish - Look forward to seeing the final

NMEZero - I like the composition of the previous grayscale version more. But it's a very nice concept, and original.

You were right about this, cause i have also seen this drawing before.
this is the link. O.G cant believe you just took other people's drawing for yours. :(

I think I'm done, but there might still be things that need work. Suggestions? Thinking of editing one of the horns since they looks a little too asymmetric for my taste, even though it's intentional.

Edit: Slightly updated.

Hmm...yeah. looking at it this morning, I see what you mean. The creature ends up being very centered in the image with it cropped and the other not in there. Maybe I'll try to get him back in.
Thanks for the feedback.

I knew I'd seen that before. (Been on Elfwood for FOREVER.) I even commented to my boyfriend that it seemed like the picture had been created for something other than the contest, and I kept trying to figure out what was going on with the tail area where the weird patchiness was. (I guess where the girl's head and body had been erased.)

I still can't believe people do this. I just don't see the point. So do they get banned for this type of thing?
I mean the copying thing, not calling them on it, obviously.

Here's what the FAQ says:

FIRSTLY
- Conceptart does not condone (for obvious reasons) the direct theft of another artists work. That means claiming their work as yours by posting or displaying it with the intent for others to believe it is YOUR work.

...

A FINAL NOTE TO ALL MEMBERS
In these recent episodes there has also been a case of many members flaming/abusing the members in question. Please be aware that many members simply are not aware of the protocol for posting this type of artwork and may be completely not at fault.... do not take over or spam their thread - the moderators are there to make sure things like that are sorted out. They have the right to post what they wish just as the mods have the right to 'moderate' it if it is deemed inappropriate.

If in doubt point the artist to this thread.

Well... I've never read before the FAQ SECTION, hehe :bashful:
but still... I think is of common sense not to post works that are not yours...specially in an activities like C.O.W.
and like in this particular case, altering someone else's work, removing and patching some parts, and then call it your own,
is a little difficult to tolerate even if it was done by people who simply "are not aware of the protocol",
but well...
looks like these people have existed since always... but they never go too far, they simply can't. :confident

Update: I added hands and tried to remove some annoying elements. Rounded out some forms, defined a little muscle, and started adding some moss and weird dangling plant flora. I also added hands to make it not only more logical, but more appealing and stable.

Truedat. It should be common sense. That second section actually pertains to people who post works that are in homage to others or inspired by. I just thought it was a good reminder to not get personal and to let the mods deal with the situation, such as it is.

...

In happier news I'd like to say that I like your linework, Markeshi, although I'm worried about the neck strain your poor beast must carry. I'm looking forward to seeing how you develop and colour it. :)

My boyfriend says he's had to work off of concept art that was LESS finished than your piece. I say you make a good try and get the fur and whatever markings you had planned finished and enter it anyway. Don't worry too much about the background. Best of luck.

EDITED TO ADD: I hope I get done in time. I'm almost done. I know it says the deadline isn't EXACTLY a week on the front page, but when it says Wednesday I wasn't sure if that meant Wednesday morning or Wednesday night....

I'll show what mine looked like this morning, when I started inking. :)

Obsidian Glynn
You better say something about your behaviour of stealing artwork from other artists. I asked other admins about that and chances are high that you will be banned. I am waiting for their reply, so better be quick with your statement, if you have anything to say at all.

Thanks Moai for the heads up! :)

davi

I banned Obsidian Glynn for 2 years.

This is a professional community. It effect's people's name when other's steal/post their artwork publicly without credit.

He is obviously not mature enough to post on this forum, nor does he have the true spirit of an artist to wish to complete things on his own merit, but would rather just "win".

I doubt anyone else reading this is thinking about doing the same thing, but consider it a warning. Conceptart.org does not take misusing other artist's work lightly.

If you catch users doing it. Next to a post is a post number and an exclamation mark. Click the exclamation mark and the post will be reported to all the moderators and admins on the forum.

Have a good day, and great entries :)

Lander - WOW.... and Thanks! Sure I know and I am missing Keith Parkinson. I like his works. These were first fantasy painting I saw when I was teenager. I think in those days there was just one fantasy magazine in Poland :D hehe. But in every issue they were printing few COLOR works from talented fantasy artists. These was like passage to different world. I still have many of these magazines. But I am afraid I am not as talented as he was, and I will never reach his level. Anyway, thanks for your kind words :) Almost forgot..I think it's 16 :)

Crits and comments to the Finales!
thescala - I think this one is a bit rushed. The creature looks flat...
AhChu - I like this one. It fits to the sound.
Verehin - Very cool. It fits to the sound. I like colors, design of the creature and the background.
kinonato - I like the sketches you did for this one. But somehow the creature looks to small and scary to fits the sound.
skinny - nice sketch
tonynokills - Looks like unfinished to me...and the IMO creature doesn't fit to the sound.
Mr.Wittmann - I dig the design... I would like to see him in some different pose.
MoHog - Interesting but where are his other paws? They should be visible on the image.
quartre88 - hmmm....I can't imagine how he can make sounds like the one in the sound file.
Agostinuke - You are writing that these creatures are cute and little....I can't see anything of that. Also his legs looks odd.
Ham-e - I am afraid it's too human like creature and Fozz will reject it...I hope I am wrong :)
hillergren - cool rendering
localfatheaded - I like this one. Looks funny..like a mix of a Cow and T-rex :)
OTTA - Nice work on details.. If you would like to polish/change something... I would suggest to change his claws. :)
monsi - I really like this one...the light, colors and mood of the image :)
NMEZero - I dig your idea...very unique :) My only crits is that the stomach of the creatuer looks the same like the ground. (colors, texture etc).
Bakubaku - I am not sure what to write...I would like to see more polished version.
Freha - nice design and color scheme.
PixelFish - Nice textures and design.
SirJohanna - Hmmmm...strange...it is another horned long neck crature...hehe...this is starnge how people imagination works. Anyway ..dig the colors and design,,,
edujante - defintly a SOUND creature....funny... I like it :D
Sturnus - looks like a real ...African animal or something.
nirudafat - IMO this creature still needs more love and attention from his creator :)
Jur - Nice creature. Maybe I am wrong but the whole image needs balance. The creature is on one side of the illo and the rest of the image is empty...these mountains doesn't work for me.
Relic - strange creature
Lexa - maybe it's just me..but this creature looks like it was afraid of the charging knight...
jhagen22 - cool head....maybe add teh shadow below the crature.
Lakai - I like this one...
Tommoy - very cool...but IMO the shell could be more polished. Like the rest of the creature.
realitychek - his legs and the silhouette could be more clear.
Fractalbot - I think it looks like too small creature for this sound.
Pizza Explosion - strange creature. IMO the picture is bit too dark, but it could be my monitor's fault.
schwager - Your creature looks like mix of the bull and the lion. :)
LANN - I like his heads....but check out his claws. I think they should be more in the shadow.
Azathoth - very cool creature. I like the color scheme and the design
markeshi - nice and clean rendering. I really like the design but IMO his head look bit too heavy for his long neck.
longshao - fantastic rendering. Love the mood and design of your creature. Definitely my favorite creature in this round.
electric goat - Another great design and rendering. My second fav. Btw, what software have you used for this one?
Lander - Cool design, I really like his head. But still you could polish it more.
zephyri - I dig this one...especially your texture work. Nice!
Kischi - I think your sketch looks better then the final. Somehow these colors/painting don't work for me.

Sorry guys I haven't write more but this still takes me too much time.
Ahhh...and sorry If I wrote something wrong.
