Just over a week ago, my employer decided to cease to exist in a spectacular fashion.
So now i find myself facing two choices
A) look for another job in the games industry
B) or go back to university
With A) theres the risk of years of producing "assets" artwork e.g. scanned photos and buildings style stuff , that doesnt develop me as an artist or help me reach the potential i feel i still haven't fully tapped
With B) theres the opportunity to specialise and hone my skills in specific areas and emerge poor but able to go where i want (ok, possibly wishful thinking)
I know a few more years in games, if i'm unlucky will mean i never have a portfolio that will get me into the major leagues. Think craig mullins/weta digital and thats where i would like to aim for, however unrealistic a goal that is.
Anyone know any good courses in the UK - either top class animation (with emphasis on ACTUAL animation - timing, weight etc, not just using software) or painting/illustration/sculpture where the faculty KNOW what they're doing (as opposed to my previous experience of clueless has-beens in cushy goverment employment)
Cheers
